This thing about holding back from Warners... Doesnt anyone agree with me that all this talk about "holding back decent tracks" from Warners and Prince deliberatly releasing inferior products just to honour his contract a little dubious?
I mean, if Prince really did that, who would win in that situation? Prince? nope, he simply decreases his fan base. Us? nope, we pay our money and get less return for it. Warners? Yes, these recordings (Come, Chaos & Disorder) sell less, but there was also a hell of a lot less promotion put into them, so perhaps Warners still made a good profit on them?? In my opinion, these were simply the best albums Prince could come up with at the time. If Im wrong, where are all the fantastic tracks that have been "held back"?

I think it's pretty clear he was on cruise control, and by the time he had a falling out with WB he gave them inferior music out of spite. It's an alienating thing to do (when it comes to fans), but come on, it's Prince. His beef was with WB, not the fans, but I doubt he was going to give them his all while being as disgruntled as he was and knowing he had to fulfill his contract. I'll bet Prince feels that he wins in that situation, because he didn't seem to care, and Warner Bros. wanted him to. I don't agree with it, but that was his mentality. He has said that after Sign O' The Times he had nothing to prove. Then came the disagreement about The Black Album. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I don't know what happened there...it all happened so fast and then the whole slave-on-the-face thing just distracted me from the real issues that were at hand.
