Musicology's old school feel came from the songs, not someone telling me in between songs how old school it is. Listening to "Reflection" makes me feel like I am sitting on a neighbrohood stoop with Prince watching the traffic go by. I didn't need someone to prep me before that song in order to feel that way, the song took me there. Prince songs are like expensive chocolates, you savor each one for the way it was made and tastes. But you would never pour cheap syrup over expensive chocolates. As far as making 3121 into more of a LA party feel, NO THANK YOU. The only people that care about LA is people in LA, it is the fakest place on earth. Prince should never forget where he came from and that is the midwest. Both Musicology and 3121 are just fine the way they are. I disagree with you, in the sense the interludes and such draw me in. I am much more likely to savor the whole meal if the whole meal seems like it was cooked with more ingredients thrown in (ingredients=interludes, etc.)

I mean, c'mon... where the fuck are the gut-wrenching guitar solos which he seems to have forgotten about? What about the parts in A Million Days or The Dance where they reach a climax at the end, and you really think it's about to take off but they just disappoint. It all sounds a little contrived... nothing on either of the two albums sounds spontaneous. It all sounds like he's gone over every note a million times and it just sounds tired. Get On The Boat, Musicology, Prettyman, The Work... they're ten to the dozen, bog-standard pastiche's of another artist. I really wish he'd get over that little James Brown Jnr. fixation. Sure I dig some of the tracks on both albums, but when I listen to them as a whole experience I'm left feeling very hollow. I also disagree with you. 3121 has several songs that ring my chimes and get to my spirit.

I get the impression that you don’t cook very often.
When you cook Italian beef you got Janet’s singing ability which is the beef, and then you have the interludes which is the garlic, Italian seasonings, and spices to back up the beef so that it tastes good. Someone like Janet Jackson needs these ingredients=interludes you are talking about because all she does is sing. Everyone else around her has to be the rest of the recipe. Prince has the ingredients, spice, and the secret sauce that grandma won’t tell ya. Why? Because he sings, plays instruments, and conducts a song to make you feel a certain emotion which is the whole purpose of music. I actually get into this debate with my husband from time to time. He likes the interludes and as you can tell I don’t. But my husband doesn’t cook either. As I stated before Musicology and 3121 are just fine the way they are. The only thing I would change is “Life of the Party” making it sound more like it did at the Musicology tour. That song sounds completely different live than it does on the CD.

If you answered none or no to any of the questions above,,,,STFU! wait a minute, is any of that called for? hypotheticas are fun questions to pose. gee, why ruin other peoples fun? They just thought I was blowing off steam, and didn't expect that I could actually back my thoughts up. So there! NYEARGH!!!!!

You have to hear a segue from the pulled Dream Factory album, that is a conversation between two groupies and the doorman - it is mildly humorous and lends GREATLY to the aire of the whole album, which was supposed to be whimsical.

Have you actually compiled this as an empirical (provable) fact, or are you just guestimating that this many think this?

Ummm... here's a thought...
READ THE TOPIC!!! Simply stay on the subject and answer the fraggin hypothetical question the topic presented... Or move on too another 'more serious' intellectual, meta-physical bullshit topic discussing the spiritual importance of 'black sweat' and allow peeps to have thier fun. Criticizing peeps for answering the topic with your self-indulgent BS is getting fraggin tired around here. Now on subject... If I had produced either album I may have made them double album length. I realy enjoyed some of the tracks on both albums.. but some of the best IMO were just too short. If not the albums them selves.. I would surely have realeased extended tracks of some of the songs. i'm not gonna specify which tracks... cause I 'really' don't wish to have my opinions debated..."Why would you want to hear that any longer than necessary.. you suck cause it sucks!"
