Why have there been barely any remixes since Come? I mean hardly any...I may be mistaken with COME being the last album he did remixes for (I think I hate U had some)
Aside from Rave, there really has been a steady decline for anything extended. Nothing off of TRC, Musicology, TCI, Slaughterhouse or 3121. I don't recall anything off of Emancipation of PP or Chaos. And B-sides as well...steady decline. For someone who used to have the best remixes and liked doing them (or having others do them) as well as widely known for B-SIdes almost (if not) better than the A side. Surely the lack of doing these anymore has had an effect on the community, who wishes/longs for these things. Christian Zombie Vampires

It's one of the things I wish Prince had more of, especially now since the original product is so.... lacking (IMO) - Some mixes and b-sides on each single release would keep my interest in a project like 3121.
I guess Prince has never really been one for mixes except for a couple of times in his long career (like the very early 90s for example) -- and usually prefering to handle any remix duties himself. Nothing wrong with that - but nothing wrong commissioning 4 or 5 varied remixes for a song either to go along with a nice extended mix by Prince and a b-side or two - He can spare the songs after all. Look at someone like Madonna - each album has tons of mixes, even for songs that aren't singles. Fair enough, a lot of them aren't my taste (Thunderpuss and all that), and she comes from a different musical background/mind-set to Prince -- But as I say, a few mixes and non-album tracks can really do wonders for a project's longevity where fans are concerned.

"The Greatest Romance" has a couple cool remixes. The Neptunes did one.

And relatively varied set too - There was the Eve one, the Neptunes, and the Jason Nevin's mix - I don't care for the first two artists, or their work on TGRES, but the Jason Nevin's mix was palletable to me, even if it was rather staid and perfunctory, I still give it the ocassional spin. That's my point - a few remixes, spanning a few different styles, and everyone's happy (or at least I am, and that's what counts).

Haven't heard them in awhile, though.

Well said. It's just that he used to do them a lot. It was the norm. Though many of the mixes from the early days were just longer versions...and the shorter version was the album version. One could say the ones from the early 90's were trying to "keep up with the Jones' " type of deal. Meaning he added dance beats like everyone was doing at the time. Maybe he got bored with doing it. 12 Inch extended versions would be excellent. Remixes would be good. Non-album B-sides even better. BUT TO DO NONE OF THAT recently is SUCH a shame for someone who can produce a song in a day and has got so much locked away already done. I really can't understand why Prince is becoming increasingly precious about the amount of material he releases, rationing certainly doesn't seem to be improving his sales figures, time to go the other way and flood the market!

Although I guess it's not really a remix, this year we have a different version of "The Dance"

Because remixes are an artistic cop-out. You think the Mona Lisa needs a damn remix?

But Prince invented the remix! Unfortunately, he forgot to patent it. Puff Daddy stole the idea from Prince and the rest is history.

I've been bellyaching over this topic for awhile.
Maybe Prince figures his time will be better spent doing new tracks than reworking others.
