Why is Prince not promoting 3121?? Do you think he's rebelling against Universal for their ideas of promoting 3121-- e.g. appearing on American Idol-- and he is deliberately staying out of the spotlight and not promote 3121? If that's the case, how would you feel about it? Do you think it's selfish of him that we haven't heard anything for a month and a half now since 3121 came out, or not even thank his fans for our support and bringing his album on top. Oh well... if that's what he's doing then more power to him. he struggled long enough
to get where he is now, concerning his freedom to release what he wants on his own terms, when he wants to. you could say that it's rather childish of him to get in bed with a label at this point and still be disappointed when things don't go 100% like he wants them to. but that's just prince for you, lol. i prefered the days of 2001-2003 over this current phase anyway. that's a time when he did what he wanted and released whatever he felt like and it yielded some of his very best material. all this commercial fame chasing shouldn't concern him anymore. perhaps he just wanted to prove that he could still have an opening #1 and now that's out of the way he's prepared to let the album do whatever it does on it's own without further promotion. either that, or mani just had a baby and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

It could be due to any of the following:
1.) Prince is rebelling because he feels like Universal screwed him somehow. 2.) He thinks the album sucks, and he wants to forget about it and move on. 3.) He`s in poor health or dealing with personal demons. 4.) He`s realized that he doesn`t wanna be the commercial pop star anymore. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I'd go with Number One.It seems that there may be problems with the Universal deal.We all know how Prince gets into feuds with every major record company, lol.

There's the purple ticket concert this weekend. That's promotion of a sort. It will be interesting to see if Prince has anything to say on the matter... and if we get to hear about it from someone that was there.

Good assumptions LOL
But I'd hope he's not feuding with the labels again! I don't believe he is! Thou if he is...he can kiss these one off deals goodbye and Prince will never have an opportunity again like this. He needs to understand he's a recording artist under universal and he has to bend a little if he's gonna sign his name on the dotted line. He's a puppet for now...so he's gotta do as they say or never sign a major label agreement again!

What's to promote? The album is out and the fans already have it. Why waste money going after outsiders that don't give a damn about anything but shit hop? Prince's job is done and now it's time to start concentrating on a new album. Next! Andy is a four letter word.

promotion = more money, more power, more freedom to do whatever he wants to do artistically, more respect, more houses, more clothes, more fans... but... maybe the church is discouraging him... dunno.... they didn't like Thriller so Michael Jackson dropped them. Maybe he has a secret plan to blow it all huge in some new way.... maybe he has left the planet and gone back to Venus.... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

If all he was interested in was getting the album out to the hardcore fanbase, it would've only been up on the NPGMC, or a relatively low-key CD release like NEWS or TRC - Nothing about 3121 (uptil his recent inactivity) points towards this, it is a record aimed at the mass commercial market - which is why this lull is all the more odd (or it would be if it wasn't Prince).

Actually I'm starting to suspect health issues, because he WAS promoting it before the record came out. Either that or he just really wants to get back to his jazz noodlings.
I actually hope it's the latter.

Going after more fans is more like what he would be doing by more promotion. Prince doesn't need more fans. He already has a huge fan base that buys every single album either on the day of it's release or a week or so afterwards. This fan base has been doing this for 20 years even if they didn't like the previous album. This is the fan base that allowed him to live comfortably during the 1990s when most of the world had forgotten about him. As for doing what he wants to do artistically, Prince would definately have to sacrifice that in order to get new fans. He's the one that's been complaining about the current state of music for years so he would have to sell out to it in order to gain new fans because that's the type of music they are listening to. During the sell out process, he loses more respect from his regular fan base. He doesn't need to go after the newcomers. If they like his type of music, they will eventually come to him because his type of music is not played on the radio so someone in their underground crowd would have hipped them to him. Also, if he did gain new fans with sellout music, he would have to continue selling out to keep them. The more he would sell out, the more of his main fan base would leave that has tolerated all the style changes throughout the years. His artistic freedom would be totally gone as well as his respect. . . [Edited 5/4/06 12:42pm] Andy is a four letter word.

To me, "3121" seems to be an album he put out in attempt to please all his fan base with a particular song or two they might like. "Lolita" sounds like it was intended for the old pre-Purple Rain fans like me. "Get On The Boat" sounds like it was made for the fans of the horns. "TAC" sounds like he was going after the "Parade" crowd. "3121" sounds like it was for the Camille fans. And "Incense And Candles" sounds like the sellout song to go after a new crowd. i really believe that prince is putting the finishing touches on Tamar's cd and the upcoming tour....im thinking he thought the singles that have been released would have a longer run and he could have time to prep the tour and next single and video...the albums been out going on 6 weeks and we've already gotten to the 3rd single all of which have other tracks from the album with them now with the 3rd single half of the entire album will b released since theres only 12 cuts....maybe theres plans to pair up all 12 songs and release them as singles since theres not much to b considered filler on the cd....at any rate not many releases from any artist have had 6 or more songs released from it in less than two months...wait for the tour and the cd will move more units as prince becomes more visible.

I tend to agree with this point...I don't think the midget is feuding with Universal...Hell, they rolled out the red carpet for P....I think he's having health problems...but that's just me....But the rumors of a gig in Las Vegas is growing stronger...Who the fuck knows with that Nelson kid.... Pretty shitty timing on the part of The Kid to prepare for the tour weeks after the album`s released. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
