Here's a thought, what if he quit doing the religious songs and the sexual songs...we would be left with slim pickin's...what would he sing about then?

That is a DAMNED fine question!

Since his career was kinda founded on his sexually-charged lyrics and image, I suspect that the average fan probably mourns the loss of his sexy stuff more than they would mourn his loss of religion.

Well he ain't so don't get your hopes up Ice Nine.lol. To tell the truth, I listen to a lot of various artists that I don't even know what they think about GOd, so I wouldn't care unless he was trying to tell me to be an athiest or a Satanist like Marylin (wo)Manson.

I don't know why this keeps coming up in one way or another.

But since you asked Ice, I think most of us could care less about his religious convictions, it is about the music!

Could anyone tell me what religion Miles D or any other popular musician follow just by lisening to their music?

Some yes, but most choose to limit content for fear of upsetting people knowing that it would impact on sales.

The funk would still be there if he choose to sing about Icenine allday long

Maybe it shouldn't make a difference but when I KNOW someone is an athiest, I don't wanna fuck with them. This can be a classmate, a person at work - whoever. I just think it's creepy.

It's like finding out someone is a psychic - I'd steer SO clear of them. We're not meant to know everything that's gonna happen to us & people who dabble w/ that just unnerve me. It's a lack of faith...

You think its creepy that someone doesnt believe in a big invisable fella???
You think its creepy that someone doesnt believe in dead people sprouting wings???
...I respect anyones belief system, however silly or irrational it appears to me, as long as they dont start getting a superiority complex!
,,,and er.. u believe that people who claim to be psychic actually are psychic???

Would you devout christians, muslims, etc. still listen to Prince if you found out that he was actually an atheist? Nothing would change about his music at all, other than that he would not talk about god any longer... and he would also never address the topic in his songs. The only thing is that you would KNOW that he was an atheist...

Would you still dig his music?

Who's got the superiority complex - YOU? You're implying my beliefs are silly & irrational. Your tone reeks of a superiority complex!

As far as psychics, I don't believe that ALL who claim to be are psychic. But I can't confidently say that NO person on the planet has psychic ability. The bottom line is that people who dabble in revealing/changing the fate of others is on another page - that's a book I'm not trying to pick up.

There are some things that just cannot be explained. That's where the superiority complex comes in - folks who think man has all the answers...

Since Miles didn't usually make it a habit of working with singers who actually sang lyrics, I personally couldn't tell you. Stevie Wonder clearly sang about Jesus in some of his old songs, as did Aretha Franklin from time to time.

Some yes, but most choose to limit content for fear of upsetting people knowing that it would impact on sales.

Of course.'Tis their right, and their decision to make. 'Tis also Prince's right and decision to make to sing about his own convictions. But isn't Prince all about The Money? Anywho, he used to sing about explicit sex with mucho conviction too. No one has/had to go along for the ride in either case.

My post was a reaction to you stating, not implying, that you woul avoid coming into contact with non-belivers, citing us as being "creepy", as your explanation. And you have the nerve to say that IM the one feeling superior? I stated that I respected anyones belief system, I wouldnt dream of avoiding people because of their religious beliefs, and I certainly wouldnt call them creepy.

Yes, there are things in this world that cannot be explained, but these things are getting fewer by the day.. Man does not have all the answers... but he will given time.

And yes, Im fully aware that you are dancing at another party. lol

You obviously think it's a bigger crime for me to avoid "creepy" (IMO) atheists than it is for you to belittle & ridicule believers. Lets call it a draw instead of pointing the finger - we'll never agree, that's cool too...

The question that begs to be asked is why some of you think that being an atheist equals somebody who has no values etc. To be exact I am not an atheist (rather an agnostic) but the bottom line is that I do not believe in God nor I practise any religion.

Still, that does not mean I am not spiritual. An atheist is someone who believes in non-existence of God (as a creator and ruler of our lives). That does not exclude a belief in certain values like kindness, tolerance, fellowship and spirit by which I mean a state of mind through which one experiences something higher (very vague, I know, but I cannot describe better in words). Whether one believes that this state of mind comes from God or from chemistry or anything else, doesn't matter as at the end experiencing and seeking it makes the person spiritual.

This understanding that atheist = no values is an old catholic trick springing from the times in which people were burned for not voicing their beliefs properly enough (and thousands of others reasons, whichever suited the fanatics).

Therefore, while I know why this question appears, still it looks to me like it's an absurd one. Whether you are inspired by God, spirit, chemistry (natural or imposed like drugs and alcohol) it all comes to who you are and how you behave to others. And each of us, regardless of our beliefs, is spiritual. It's just a matter if you care to find it in yourself and nurture.

For Prince, he found his inspiration with God. He is a spiritual person and that's one of the factors that has drawn me to him. And that's all that matters to me. If he looks for God to take him higher it's absolutely fine with me (I can't imagine it could be otherwise). Believe me or not, I love "Anna Stesia" and "God" because it takes me higher. And just because it doesn't take me straight to belief in God doesn't mean I am not spiritual.

Sorry, just came to work, didn't see your note..

I used to do after school activities with 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who are 'at risk'. Though i never figured out what 'at risk' means-- smile

But really, the activities are meant to keep them out of trouble, although my theory is it's to get them away from their playstations, but i can be happy with that too. i get worried when i don't see kids playing outside anymore--which means they're inside most likely watching tv and gaining too much weight. in my day, every kid played outside, and now, it seems to be the norm not to.

It's been two years since i done this, but it's way worth it. Those kids made my day.
