Face Down about MJ

I've always wonderd if Face Down was about Michael Jackson, i'm not sure why, but i've always had a feeling it was even though there was not real direct refernce toward him, but today i saw his peformance of it on the chris rock show, and he goes "heee-heee" and does the signature mj leg kick, does anyone know that history behind that song?

It`s a song about Prince`s career.

smile sorry P2daP. I haven't heard the song enough, and don't know the lyrics. I thought that PurpleKnight was taking a dig at Prince.

The song "Fascination" contains a lyric alluding to him, perhaps:

"so-called King gives birth to so-called.... Prince"

i always thought 'face down' was about the state of prince's career and his relationship with his label at the time, just like most of the songs on 'emancipation' that weren't about his marriage/family.

nod Actually, I've been feeling that Love may b about MJ: the style and lyrics r very MJ IMO, and it seems to speak to his sitch.

I don't think Love is about MJ (personally I think it's about the fans). I just don't see anything that references him at all. I don't know why he would be saying those things to him. But Love does sound like an MJ song. I can hear Mike singing it and it fits.

lol I wasn`t. People always assume the worst of a Sith.

The song`s prince singing about the dead "Prince" and the way he was treated by his label. He`s poking fun at his tumultuous war with WB while still venting.

The record executives were the ones saying he's "dead like Elvis." "Never respecting the root of all evil" (love of money) meaning that money was more important to them than people/art.

(Dead like Elvis)

Somebody once told him that he wouldn't take Prince through the ringer
Let him go down as a washed up singer
Ain't that a bitch?
Thinkin' all along that he wanted 2 be rich
Never respected the root of all evil and he still don't 2 this day, huh
Bury him face down, let the motherfuckers kiss a ass, OK?

Face down!

Told 'em he wanted 2 sing a song about a black child goin' buck wild
And they just laughed in his face
Talk 2 your lawyer but U got no case
What U need 2 do is keep your place
Next time U pull a card, it better be a ace motherfucker
Or U can lay face down (Face down!)

.....
Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

Yeah - it is about the fans etc. But songs can have two meanings. In a press conference in 2004 (I think) he expressed guarded sympathy to MJ, and I thought this could be a call-out, especially coz of the style of the song. It's a song about everybody dissing you but love will conquer, basically, which could talk to Mike's situation (unless, like most of us, you're convinced he's a pedophile!).

Face Down is about Warner Brothers in the 90's basically telling him "What U need 2 do is keep your place. Next time U pull a card, it better be an ace motherfucker." Meaning, the next album better be a hit.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

The part of Face Down about "wanted 2 sing a song about a black child goin' buck wild, and they just laughed in his face" might be about the NPG Gold Nigga album that he wanted to release, and they refused to release it.
As Prince said in his interview with Chris Rock in 1997 on VH-1 "It's hard 2 work with someone who u can tell hates your guts."
Goodnight, sweet Prince.
