These are from the live performance on a boot called The Beautiful Experience or Interactive Exerpience. As far as you other questions concerning a tv show in 94' that was interactive and taking live request and showing the B-E commercials, I remember it being called 'THE BOX'. You could dial a 777 number and request a vide to be played for a 2.50 fee added to you phone bill. Pretty weird only last 1 year. [Edited 5/5/06 9:59am] "

I was sniffing anti-histamines so forgive me if this goes astray
MuchMusic aired it here in Canada but heavily edited. they cut out Days of Wild! Damn the CRTC. Bunch of prairie dogs if you ask me. But you didn't... I only noticed this when i read the credits and couldn't quite figure out what this 'days of wild' business was that I missed. Also wasnt sure what the Jam was but it was my favbourite performance. Now is still killer. The attitude combined with Mayte's ass. Actually thats me favourite elemnt of the whole performance. Mayte's cheeks. Loose, Acknowledge me (when she does that booty slap move...oh hell, I need more drugs now) Anyone know what the graphic was at the end during the credits/Orgasm? I seem to recall someone's face floating around with some weird graphic of sunglasses and bad photo editing...anyone know what Im referrring to? i need sleep

I'm not referring to the Box...lol The Box was a video channel. What I am talking about is an infomercial for the cable company that was introducing "on demand" interactive programming, the concept of being able to control what you watch on tv...which is why they were playing Interactive. I have nothing to corroborate this, and have never seen it mentioned anywhere, but in view of the tv movie it seems logical.
Anyone have thoughts on this? "The Beautiful Experience" was going to be a 7 track EP/mini album which was originally going to have 7 different tracks (not 7 mixes of the same track). Of course WB wouldn't allow it's release (in fact they wouldn't even allow a b-side to "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"... which is why the dance remix "Beautiful" had to be used). As well as tinkering with ideas about "The Dawn" it's also quite possible that he was thinking of releasing all these tracks as a series of 7 track EP's instead.

I liked the storyline ("who are you, and what i'm doing in your videos?") and loved Acknowledge Me and Pheromone ...and Shhhhh ...and Now ...and... well, everything Were you able to figure out what the storyline was all about? [Edited 5/5/06 11:03am]

[Edited 5/5/06 11:03am] Probably I got it all wrong and it just makes no sense but I'm this naive and I like to see there is a fact there: the storyline changes after The Most Beautiful (etc) song , so the key has to be with the "beauty that comes from inside" call it self-esteem. At first Nona is just alone and has no plans to go out and doesn't feel like to anyway. She decides to try that "virtual" beautiful experience on the internet. All turns strange cause she can't control it and starts to appear now and then in the videos. She gets worried, frightened, angry and finally sad. In The Most Beautiful (etc) video she sees herself there too but this time she likes it and seems to realize she is as special (and because of that as beauty) as everyone else, as everybody can be, cause it comes from inside. When she believes in this she changes her attitude, puts her sexiests clothes on, and starts to enjoy and take control of her real beautiful experience. ... but as I said before, probably it's not deliberately and that story is just a simple link The important thing are really the songs anyway

Yeah, that's what I've always thought - do you know if there was ever a 'real' b-side chosen that got rejected, or did know right from the get-go that he couldn't do that? If there was a 'real' b-side, I'm curious which track it would have been...

When she believes in this she changes her attitude, puts her sexiests clothes on, and starts to enjoy and take control of her real beautiful experience. I've always found Prince to send very mixed messages to women about this kind of stuff. "Beauty comes from inside so put on sexy clothes to make men want you" - the clothes Prince women wear never seem to me to be respectfully-beautiful, but lustfully-sexy - as if that's a reflection of her true beauty. I think there's a valid point in taking pride in who you are and taking care of your body as a result, but trying to make every man under the sun lust for you doesn't seem like a healthy outcome of seeing yourself as, for example, "beautiful, loved and blessed".

If there was a 'real' b-side, I'm curious which track it would have been... The original b-side was going to be 'New World' (which of course didn't officially surface until almost 3 years later on 'Emancipation'). I don't think it's any coincidence that that the track that replaced it (Beautiful) is a remix in a very similar vein.

It's not really the internet as such, it's some sort of fictionary, weird pay-per-call TV / computer -hybrid. The internet hadn't been popularized by the time TBE was made, and Prince wasn't all over it himself just yet. Rather the technology would imply at those "Multimedia" CD-ROMs that were all the rage back then when computers had started to have enough processing power to be able to playback music and (rudimentary) video at the same time. In TBE the multimedia experience is dialled from a phone service (?!?) and later it sort of takes over Nona's apartment in real life too, which was sort of the naive aim for those same "interactive movie" CD-ROMs as they were marketed back then. And of course, Prince had his own "Interactive" CD-ROM out then as well. Geez people, you folks are so young you don't even remember the times before the internet.

The Beautiful Experience video was also sold through the NPG music club, although very briefly. I snapped one up expecting to have a good quality version but it seemed to be a 2nd generation or worse duplication of a recording from Japanese TV!!
Needless to say, it didn't remain on sale at the club for very long. RIP

Interactive appeared on the Interactive CD rom, and then on Crystal Ball (different version). The Interactive video did actually get an offical release, when it was given away on a free DVD with a UK computer magazine in 95. Can anyone help me out with a copy of this. Send an orgnote if you can.

Good points....I think this TV experience was further proof of how ahead of his time Prince was and sometimes still is...I appreciate the whole Beautiful Experience TV special much more today than I did back then, and even the storyline makes more sense to me now that the internet gives you so many more possibilities than way back when. I like the little storylines that Prince incorporates into projects like this or the SOTT movie, I never expect anything mindblowing and some of the stories seem to make more sense when watched again later. The Undertaker storyline wasn´t really necessary though, IMO. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
