My iTunes ratings surprised me about my thoughts on Prince's albums

I took a look at my iPod ratings for Prince songs, and decided to average the ratings out per song for each album, and see where each album fell based upon my average ratings. Here's what I got.

1. Purple Rain
2. Controversy (tie)
2. Dirty Mind (tie)
2. Sign O' The Times (tie)
5. 1999
6. Lovesexy
7. Parade
8. Prince
9. The Black Album
10. ATWIAD
11. Musicology
12. The Gold Experience
13. Diamonds and Pearls (tie)
13. For You (tie)
14. Graffiti Bridge
15. Rave (tie)
15. Batman (tie)
16. Symbol
17. Emancipation
18. TRC
19. New Power Soul

A few albums didn't have enough tracks on them to average out a rating and a couple of the NPG issues I don't have.

But the results surprised me, because I've always considered SOTT, Parade, Lovesexy and 1999better than DM or Controversy. But maybe that's because DM and [i]Controversy were shorter and more cohesive overall than some of Prince's later, more ambitious projects.

I really don't believe that Musicology is better than TGE, Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls or Symbol. But maybe it's because a lot of my favorite Prince albums after Lovesexy were bogged down by several weak tracks.

hmm
