I parted with some of my Prince on vinyl...Was made some offers I couldn't refuse...but I do still have some LIL MAN on vinyl..Noteworthy...

***When Doves Cry(Purple Vinyl 45 rpm)- Imagine my surprise..I got three things in one. A classic hit song, a great danceable B side...and a nice purple vinyl record(collector's item)

***Purple Rain(Purple Vinyl 45 rpm)...

I remember there being a fold out poster that came with the Delirious 45 rpm. in 1983. I never did get that single though.

Then I strongly recommend you get Sabotage's recent "Sign O' The Times Rehearsal Sessions, Vol.1" CD set, citricson1.

That will really get the juices flowing, especially considering it includes the immortal "The Sex Of It" & "Baby Go-Go" sessions!!!

Prince's early albums sound better on vinyl than they do on CD.

It's amazing how many people don't know about Prince's vinyl. There 12s with extended versions of songs that aren't officially available anywhere else.

There are tons of great Prince 12s that a lot of people have never even seen. Many of these 12s have glorious covers that you'll never see anywhere else.

Take a look at the picture covers on the 12s Let's Work Gotta Stop Messin About and Sexuality. Awesome smile

I'm that Prince to this day releases his music on vinyl. I have the Rave album and The Rainbow Children album on vinyl.

Definitely! I have Prince (I like referring to it as the blue album),Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day and Parade all on vinyl. I also have the 12" versions of Let's Work and Let's Go Crazy which has Erotic City as the B-side. A couple years ago I picked up the Greatest Romance remixes on 12" vinyl.

I still play my vinyl LP's - I like that vinyl sound! Let's Work was put to serious work back in the day and got kinda dogged out. So now it has that really cool crackly sound to it! It makes Prince sound so dated but it is very cool! I'll play the the crackly version before the digitally clean CD version any day!

I have all the Prince vinyl LPs from For You through SOTT, plus all the LPs (& most of the 12"s) from the related artists of that period: The Time, Vanity/Apollonia 6, Sheila E., The Family, Mazerati, Jill Jones, plus Jesse Johnson's 1st 2 albums (& their related 12"s)

I have all the GOOD Prince 12" on vinyl from that era, starting with Controversy in '81 thru Glam Slam.. in '88. I once saw a 12" for Head- the cover was like red & black (zebra?) stripes.. I'll always regret that I never bought that 12" when I saw it..
I really should have..

I have 1 or 2 vinyl picture disks.. the 1 I know I have is a Prince interview, circa Cherry Moon.. I think it's the 1 he did on MTV with that French-speaking woman..

My favorite vinyl piece- if I had to choose 1- is the Let's Work 12". My favorite because I love the song, & I love the picture on the front- they all look cool, especially Dez. Lisa's looking sexy but innocent.. & all the papers on the ground..
I also like my Paisley Park 12" (extended version).. I like all the colors..

I think somewhere in this thread the question is posed about selling any of the vinyl..
I treasure my Prince/related artists vinyl collection.. but I think that if Prince did more shit that annoyed me, I wouldn't put myself past selling a large part of the vinyl..
(I'd of course keep the pieces that we're most valuable to me..)

I bought vinyl for as long as I could.. of course these days most of the major chains sell very little vinyl. I know a lot of people dig the "popping" & "scratches" on vinyl.. it distracts me, especially on a nice slow jam. Cd's- when they function properly- generally have a much cleaner sound (which I like).. just in the last year or so, I've broken down & now I buy cd's almost exclusively..

I still appreciate vinyl though, for its size & the artwork that's often found on it. Again, during the "belle époque" of Prince music, not only was the music excellent, but a lot of the vinyl artwork was too..
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I have every album up to the Gold Experience on Vinyl as well as Rave. I have bunch of 12 inch singles also.
When CD became the media of the day, I bought everything I had on CD. One of my girlfriends gave me a Gold Plated GB LP with artwork, which hangs in my hall..

Of course! I have every LP, 12" single, promo and associate LP and 12" on vinyl. I have the "Sexy Dancer" 12" and all the Madhouse stuff... and everything from the Time.
My collection spans from For You to the "Feel U Up" longstroke import 12".

My vinyl collection is very thick and long. Most guys are quite envious and jelous (except Aaron, it seems) and most women are very impressed and attracted to me by it.

I'd like to take it out and show it to you all at a fan gathering some time.

I used to have almost everything on vinyl up to the Graffiti Bridge stuff, then I quit to get everything in CD. I still have the LPs which I'll still sell off, but everything else (the 45s and 12-inch singles) is already sold. The profits went towards a new computer, so it wasn't too much of a heartbreak. smile

Prince on vinyl is still a necessity, bearing in mind all the above releases have not yet been made available on CD.

I too have all the released Prince tracks and versions not available on CD (save for edits - I'm not a psycho collector), and they're great. I love digging out any number of the records giotto mentioned. The eighties remixes and extended versions of album tracks and b-sides are superb. I worry about wearing out the vinyl, but I just can't help putting on Sexy Dancer (Long Version) or the Pope remix.. 'a loop is a loop is a loop uh'. They're my two fave 12" records.

I also have a lot of the greater Paisley family on vinyl: Madhouse 8/16, JJ, The Family, Mavis Staples, Vanity and Appolonia. Unfortunately, all of these and my stereo too are 7000km away from where I now live and work...

The enjoyment of these releases is doubled by the fact that vinyl sounds so much better than CD. I am not an audiophile and my system is nothing special, but I can still hear a huge difference between the quality of the two mediums. To me, vinyl sounds softer, and it fills the room, whereas CDs sound harsh and the sound seems to emanate directly from the speakers. There's a certain warmth to putting on a crackly 17 days smile. The opening notes of The Family sound alive on vinyl but empty on CD.

I can think of two reasons why CDs sound inferior to vinyl. Humans can detect something like 3 million levels of sound, and anything squeezed into fewer levels will sound worse. CDs are limited to 16 bits, allowing only 65,536 levels of sound, an approximation which is jarring. Vinyl on the other hand can in theory replicate an infinite range of sound, and basically, that's a lot more pleasant to the ears.
The second factor is the frequency limitation of CDs. 44 KHz can handle frequencies up to 22 KHz, which I think is above human hearing, *but* any musical sounds above this range that may effect harmonics in the audible range are lost.

I'm not an expert, so please feel free to correct me on this.

Not to forget that record covers look great, and that they're a joy to collect smile. I became a P fan in 92, and started scouring the wrecka stows. I found a ton of vinyl in the UK in 1995.

Is Rainbow Children still available on LP anywhere?
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.
