Heck, yes! I can't help but totally agree with you on this one rdhull... Things really did begin to go pear-shaped around the SOTT period (ironically enough!) as far as 12"s are concerned...

Special mention must go to the UK release of "Gotta Stop Messin' About" on 12". That shot on the front cover is just wild...

Yeah. That one too. But I was really referring to the colour shot of the boy in his bikini briefs with the red handkie around his neck, posing in front of that fake tiger print backdrop.

My girlfriend loves that shot even more than I do!

When I first started listening to Prince, I only bought vinyl. I didn't want to mess with tapes. The artwork was much better on vinyl. Now I only buy vinyl for my collection. I did make sure I had all his work on cd.

One thing I will say is if you dont have T's 12 inch cd set youre crazaaay. Or downlows version...T made a 5 cd set of all 12 inches from 1979 too 1988? All in great quality from perfect vinyl etc..its great to have a sequence and to have em all in one set..Girl, SAIMY, Shocakadelica, Wish U Heaven 3 versions etc...this set is essential. All the great 80's 12 inch versions..Pop Life U.K and U.S. versions. Its just nice to have so u dont have to pull out vinyl and risk scratches etc. Lemme see if I can list em from copy n paste. Check this shit out---Alexa is even on this muthafucka. This shit is essential. Its a damn shame Prince and WB didnt do this themselves...but Im glad T did it becauese he did it right, no edits and all the stuff and good parts. WB woulda fucked it up.And its all on cd:

T's Offically Released B-Sides & 12" mixes
just as long as we're together, soft & wet, sexy dancer (long version), gotta stop (messin' about), let's work (long version), how come you don't call me anymore?, little red corvette (dance mix), horny toad, irresistable bitch, 17 days, let's go crazy (special dance mix), i would die 4 u, another lonely christmas, god (instrumental, god (vocal), paisley park (remix), raspberry beret (new mix), she's always in my hair (new mix), pop life (extended version), pop life (fresh dance mix), hello, hello (fresh dance mix), america, girl, kiss (extended version), love or $ (ext. ver.), mountains (ext ver), alexa de paris (ext ver), anotherloverholenyohead (ext ver), la la la he he he (highly explosive), shockadelica, u got the look (long look), housequake (7 minutes mo' quake), hot thing (ext remix), hot thing (dub), alphabet st. (this is not music this is a trip), glam slam (remix), escape (free yo mind from this ratrace), i wish u heaven (parts 1,2, & 3), scarlet pussy, scarlet pussy 12" mix, 200 balloons, partyman (the video mix), partyman (partyman music mix), partyman (the purple party mix), feel u up (long stroke), good love

i have a question for all you vinyl heads...of all the prince/prince related vinyl you own, which is your favorite?

not favorite based on songs, but favorite based on packaging, lyric sheets, artwork, etc.?

for me it has to be a tie between 1999 and SOTT.
the 1999 labels had the pic of prince's eye right in the middle of the label where the hole is.

do you guys remember that? of course you do.
and the cover for SOTT is tight.

i personally dig lovesexy on vinyl because the picture is so much bigger and you lose so much to a smaller cd cover. Same with SOTT. I think we lost real album artwork when cd's came out, and that was part of the experience.

U know..I have all worldwide prince releases on vinyl. But I never play em' anymore. Most r still in shrinkwrap. It's a part of my collection that I never really pay much attention 2 unless something new is released. I'm sure some day I'll sell off that part of my collection. I have a gazillion cds so I'm not much in2 vinyl.

I had actually heard of that CD release you've just mentioned, rdhull. However, I read somewhere that the quality of this was terrible... ???

The Premium label also attempted a similar feat of putting out all 12"s on CD - with disastrous results.

Most tracks were peppered by glitches, rendering most discs unlisteneable. I had to request my money back.

i have to say my 2 most prized pieces of vinyl are the
"damn near 10 min" unreleased version of gett off and the 12 inch of sexy dance with the extended version.

the god instrumental on the b side of purple rain uk is also a classic.

does anyone out there have any of the pictures discs or cutouts?

i have that paisley park/shes always in my hair cut out of the kid on the ATWIAD flying away holding the balloon.

as far as boots on vinyl i have that royal jewels and the cross the line.

both are pretty bad quality though.

Sure do. As a matter of fact I listened to some of them yesterday since I was off work. I still have Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon, Lovesexy, SOTT and 12' of Thieves in the Temple. When we could still get albums back in the day I preferred the album or the cassette because of the bigger pictures you got w/ the albums. They're great collectable items to have. Believe it or not they still play well, no scratches. They were all bought the original year they came out so that's been over 16 years so far.lol

You're better off getting Thunderball's 'The Work' series, djdredd.

A word of warning regarding this set: it is not as comprehensive as it likes to think it is, since it is missing quite a lot of outtakes and alternate demos.
