Different Tracklists For Ultimate Prince ?

I have seen a couple of different tracklists for the Ultimate Prince CD. Does the tracklist differ according to which country it was going to be released in?

A planned tracklist was leaked early, and then later the tracklist was changed into the one that was actually 'released'. That is where the confusion over the tracklists come from - some people read about the original planned tracklist and never kept up with later developments.

As for Japan having bonus tracks on CDs, there was supposed to be one for 3121 but that never materialised.

I can vouch for what you have seen
I have seen copies that have Purple Medley as the first track.
But i have since heard that that was only people speculating the track list.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Actually, that first track list was official, but Prince wanted some tracks off and added others. "Sexy Mutha," "Erotic City [12" version]," "7 [acoustic version]," and "Purple Medley" were taken off and "Delirious," "7 [album version]," and "Let's Work" were added. Did I miss any? I have to say, to have "Let's Work" on disc is so friggin' great!

funny because none of them were made. you may have seen some listed as having that. or maybe a counterfit copy but not a real one.

excuse me if this is a dumm quest'n....

but if Prince "has a say" about what songs went on Ultimate & whether or not it could be released on 3/14/06.....then why doesn't he get royalties....why are the WB tracks so fought over....

i thought he had NO say & that's why he & WB were still battling.....

he gets royalties... anyone that says any diffrent is full of crap.

why are the WB tracks so fought over....

what do you mean fought over? i do not think WB argued with him over the tracks

he may have little legal say, but WB still would not want to make him mad. Also it is possiable that Prince could block the re-release of some songs he no longer wishes to be accociated with. but you know thay is a crock... he still cashes thoes dirty mind checks.

It's just guesswork, but it appears that Warners had to ask Prince's permission to re-master these tracks, and therefore were keen to keep him happy, therefore when he suggested changes for who knows what reason, they obliged. It has been conjectured that Warners were testing the water for future re-masterings of his albums.

Prince does consistently get royalties as a writer of his songs, although the exact nature of that is dependent on what Prince signed in his various contracts with them.

What Prince was fighting over was the so-called 'masters' of his recordings which Warners own - and which allows them to put out such things as non-remastered hit collections without Prince's permission plus other various ownership rights that take Prince out of the loop. Prince wants to control his own recordings completely.

As for when this will be released, well it already has been but at the last minute there was a recall order - most likely that Prince had a change of heart and found some loophole that blocked the release. Many copies had already found their way onto record store shelves and some are still being sold, recall order or not, but they are relatively hard to get. There is supposed to be a new date for a new official release, but some quote June, others September. It is entirely possible that this will never get an official release, I guess it depends on whether the problem on this particular issue can be resolved between Warners and Prince or not.

what occured to me is, Prince was on board for it but then decided that he did not want to put 3121 against Ultimate so he asked for it to be pulled. WB not wanting to cause waves agreed... and then issued the recall. but they did what i would call a "soft-recal" that is they send memos to not sell it and stoped shipments but were not that worried if some got out.
