The Fam thing. By a self proclaimed Fam.

The lights go down. He struts out on stage... It's 2 in the morning...

He says, "it's late, but we family so it's ok"...

At that moment I look to my left, then to my right... I see tons of smiling faces as the excitement brews, and I think "yeah, we are the Prince family"!

Someone out here has taken a very broad and happy term, and made it ugly at the expense of others.

What I also find sickening is how you can sit on your soapbox and talk so badly about fans and their behavior. For one, the excitement of seeing him in person is very hard for some to handle...look at the Beatles (Beatlemania) or Elvis. People passed out!

If you are going to talk about what you deam as bad fan behavior, then stop attaching the name fam to it. Stop telling others not to take it personally too.

Finally, telling others what Prince thinks of them is not only unfounded speculation (and not your place), but can be very rude and hurtful.

Speak up Fams! Let's show everyone what being a Fam REALLY is!

Berry you are allright, but maybe you are too sensitive for the Org. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but maybe the Org is not the place for you.

But can't you see with your own eyes that Prince doesn't even like his fams. Of course he NEEDS fams to buy his merchandise, but as has been pointed out many times, when it comes to chosing who will get into close parties and who gets to meet him or hang out, he DOES NOT WANT FAMS around him.

Yes, for some people the excitement of seeing their idol in person is overwhelming and they scream and cry and show their love. These are the people who are LEFT OUTSIDE ON THE SIDEWALK while Prince goes inside with the cool peeps to party. I have seen this happen with my own eyes.

I can see it now:

At the next Paisley party no one will be dressed in a Prince clothes and no one will be screaming instead we will have a bunch of people pretending that they don't like Prince so they can get a chance to party with him.

I might have to take it a step further and walk up to him and tell him, "Your music is the worst and I hope you drop dead." This should assure me a chance to party with the little man.

Edited for grammar. Really need to preview better.

I believe that Prince is using the term "fam" to help identify potential stalkers... Prince provides a list of everyone who calls themselves "fams" to the police department in case he is ever abducted.

First of all, G's parade needs to stop making me laugh!

I am a fam and I have talked to Prince. Prince doesn't socialize w/ some of the closest people to him. He has very strick boundries (another case of Prince irony). Mani follows them as well.

Back to my point. I consider you, fellow P music appreciators, my fams. It is not about Prince or what he thinks. Period.

It's about u, my people! (I can't get serious now goldie lol )

Prince parties will start to look like Andy Warhol NY hipster gatherings where everybody is just too calm, cool, and sexy for the room.

Perhaps RaveIn2, that the ones who get into these closed parties to which you refer, are actually associates or friends somewhat. Even oridinary folks (non - celebrities)
do not necessarily have open invitations to everyone of their family members or friends for that matter when they have some get-to-gethers.
But I don't really think you could say that he doesn't care about "Fams" because I really think he has reached out and opened himself up considerably in allowing people to come into his home base and enjoy his music - particularly for 7 nights of performances in which he gave us all he had.

I don't like to repeat what is said to me personally, but I feel I need to on this one. Mani told me that what they think is so great about Celebration is us. That we are what makes it so much fun. Is from the horsres mouth enough for you.

So please stop saying that he doesn't care about his fams, fans, whatever...it isn't so.

Berry, by "closeness" are you only referring to proximity?
If he doesn't socialize with someone, they probably are not all that "close."

Entrance into a private party--or the denying of it--is not very good evidence of the level of caring Prince or any person has towards anyone else...it only indicates a comfort level he has with some people as opposed to others...

I care about my co-workers a great deal...always have...but I haven't invited any of them over to my house even once...that's just how I am.

Don't get me started on Prince's crazy afterparty shit. I've never forgiven those Paisley fuckers for having a "closed" afterparty on the last night of the first celebration. Our VIP celebration passes meant nothing. We needed to have a *second* special pass to get in. If you weren't given the special pass, you were left outside.

It's ironic how Prince prefers to label his fans as "fams", becasue he said fan stands for fanatic etc and he didn't like this term. Now it seems that a "fam" is considered as someone who is fanatacal about him and not the other way round.
