thumbs up!

I'm also one of those who like "Silly Game". Plastic aside - I really like it's naive mood. I often find myself putting that song on repeat when it comes on the CD. The keyboard part in all of its simplicity is genius too.

I don't even think Silly Game's very plasticy sounding. It reminds me a bit of 70's Marvin Gaye.

But for a while it was in my head & I couldn't remember which album it was on. Not a good sign for Rave!

Still, I think it's a very strong song in insignificant song's clothing.

The best relief of "The Plastic sound", or "the 90's sound" is "The Truth" album.

Any song on that wonderful underrated album is a great example of a good song from that era.

Thankfully that sound is mostly gone on 3121, with the exception of the lame "Lolita" &"love"

I know there are people here on this forum that digs that lame sound, but thank goodness most of the record buying public and music critics in general agree to the lameness of the 90's sound.

Prince is too good an artist to have gone down pandering to the lowest common denominator of teeny-bopper disposable music, and worst of all, he didnt do it right, because nobody but a few here on the org dug it.
He didnt know how to outdo Britney Spears, Bobby Brown or any of that other disposible 90's pop, and shouldnt even have tried.

It's just a nice little song. Pretty melody, lyrics are decent. Better IMO than Man O' War which is more personal lyrically and is bigger sounding musically.

I'd also say "In This Bed I Scream". Actually, that one is sooo close to anything else he has ever done, IMO.

that feedback/distortion guitar at the end feels like it could
be lifted right off the unreleased version of computer blue.

Probably IS... Prince is genius in updating old songs to a sound that fits into whatever he's into at the time.

Remember the earlier versions of Feel U Up, Irresistible Bitch and Tick Tick Bang, to name just a few.

Can't Stop, We Can Funk, Strange Relationship.

In This Bed I Scream is probably a GREAT 1983 guitar jam recorded in his home studio, that got cheesed up to fit the smooth synthesized Kirky J sound.

Maybe that's why he wanted Wendy and Lisa to mess around with it.

Imago

Well, I'm probably in the minority here, but I love most of what's on Emancipation.

It'd say, out of the 36 songs, I only dislike 6 or 7 of them. That's pretty damned good odds on an album spanning 3 hours. shrug

I also like :

The Greatest Romance ever sold, The One, That wierdass Christmas song sounding guitar solo on one of the npgmc edition downloads. shrug

True. Probably is a part of his Roadhouse Garden delirium. He should stop hinting at stuff and DO something with the old material.

Even though I think most of his older material already got updated and 3121 is just a lame version of a great sexy jam he did back in the day.

Hmmm, I really cannot agree that "In this bed I scream" sounds anything like the typical "Kirky J songs". neutral
