IF YOU COULD SUGGEST THE NEXT ALBUM

If Prince would let you suggest what type of music his next album would be, what would you want it to sound like. I would like for him to do an all blues album. If not blues then some real gritty sounding funk. I'm not sure everyone can feel me on the term gritty. By gritty, I mean some hollowed out bass with some seriously over the top cranking guitar solos that take you on rollercoaster rides. The kind of solos that make you want to close your eyes even when you're driving. Hell yeah!!!

Definitely a Live album, but Genre I would love to see something so Far out and freaky like that Gothic album with Marilyn Manson,Trent Reznor or Ozzy. Something Really out there. This would be something. I don't know what it would even sound like . All those different influences. Wow, And I wanna see Prince Dressed in like Black Velvet Gothic numbers. And do Midnight type Rocky Horror type things, but he's gotta wait for my Minneapolis visit first cause I don't wanna miss anything. His next Car??? I saw a Wild Silver Hearst. Check that out!!! I'm sure Prince my Man can and will do something Wild whatever he so chooses to do. Wouldn't it be Fun. And he should have horror movies playing at Paisley Park and have it all Dark and Spooky like. What a Trip that would be.HAHAHAHA! I'm Wild I know.

I would like 4 him 2 do a mix of blues/rock and hard-funk songs with a live feel à la "rainbow children" but with more uptempo this time!

I'd like 2 see Prince release 4 or 5 cd sets at the same time and let the fans decide which album set we wanted 2 buy. Crystal Ball 2, Roadhouse Garden, a Live-set, a LoveSexy-type rock-funk work-out, and an Alterntive rock cd set

I'd like to hear a few cuts in the vein of "She's always In my Hair"...and YES, that term GRITTY brings to mind "Computer Blue"...He needs Something like that!
Add in another ode to James Brown...NOT like Prettyman, but more like the LIVE (concert video) version of "Possesed".
Gritty funk, like when he was working with The Family and The Time... more retro sounds
Dust off the Linn drum machine, call the Doctor - dump the samples and loops.
I'm thinking "Head", "Automatic" - "100 MPH"...
I'm not suggesting having an album of the songs listed above, but use them again for inspiration!!
"America" - "Paisley Park" - "We Can Funk" (The '86 demo)... "The Screams Of Passion" - SHORTBERRY STRAWCAKE...
Believe me an album that was an ode to the 80's would NOT be thought of as Prince trying to Sell Out or whatever.. He's good at all types of music, but some of us are dying to hear some of the sounds that got us hooked in the first place smile

I was reading the 8 page Days of Wild book update for the year 2000 yesterday and this is exactly what happened at the first "Celebration". Paisley Park set up Mac stations where the fans could vote for what type of album they wanted Prince to release. They could also vote from 22(?) songs to be placed on a Crystal Ball II set. Anyhoo, the top album or type of album voted for was a rock/guitar album... we're still waiting! wink
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Crystal Ball II - the surest way to get the kind of variety in sound & style that made Prince so appealing in the first place. Not another snoozer like ONA.

A continuation of 'The Rainbow Children' with the current band or just a new album of material featuring playing by the current band. With live drums of course.

Aside from that I'd like to hear 'Roadhouse Garden' (with 'Empty Room) or the 'Witness 4 the Prosecution' rock album that was mentioned in one of the NPGMC chats. An NPG spokesperson stated that John Blackwell played drums like an octopus on the title track, so it sounds pretty damn good.

Ideally, I'd like more of the same innovative/unique pop and funk songs. Songs with unique sounds and arrangements like no one else can do (KISS), especially nowadays.

Prince is in the big band thing at the moment, but I think it's only a matter of time for him to return to the genre of the Linn Drum. Might be a decade...You never know what this guy's gonna throw at you!

Okay... having not read any of the previous responses, I will give my opinion:

Prince should do a rock record where he plays guitar and generates some energy... no slow jams, ballads or any of that on this one...

Does the 'St. Louis Warehouse version' of "Computer Blue" generate the kind of "energy" you're alluding to, IceNine?

Or, perhaps, you're thinking along the lines of that guitar solo at the end of "Rave" on the Het Paard aftershow???

The "Computer Blue" type of thing would do quite well! I don't care so much about the solos as the overall energy of the song.

Maybe I am wrong (this happens all too often) but I think that he could capture some attention with a solid rock record.

Whilst we're on the subject, am I alone in thinking that Prince was toying with the idea for the guitar solo in the middle of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" - the version that ended up on SOTT - as far back as his stint on the James Brown show (Beverly Hills, 1983)??? To these ears, that guitar solo sounded like a prototype for that.

Also, his rip-roaring solo during "Hero Takes A Fall" onstage with the Bangles (1986??) sounds pretty similar.

Yup, I believe he has it in him to create something just like this. Moreover, a "guitar rock record" was something that was mooted over as being a future album.

I have an idea, IceNine: why don't you just offer to produce Prince??? It might just be the shot in the arm he needs.
