There needs to be a forum for Prince fans of more than 15 years I've been a Prince fan since '85 and seriously since '87. It's irritating to come to these boards and see people arguing the same arguments form 20 years ago! The CD names change but the comments are ALWAYS the same. I have not read one new, well informed comment about Prince or his music since coming to this board years ago. Now I understand that some people here may not even be 20 years old so some of their 'revelations' are new to them, but this is why there should be a sub-forum for 'the true funk soldiers'. This way we don't have to listen to the same old stuff (not promoting, pushing the envelope-or not, religion, award shows, charts etc.) all of which he's talked about either in interview or his music. So if only there was a forum like that...

For sure! I've been a fan since 81' and I've heard some of the same topics concerning Prince over and over again and I think the reason why I never get tired of it is quite simply because I LOVE ME SOME PRINCEY , but here's to his fans that have stuck around all these years .

Sorry, youngsters, you are not a true fan unless you have been into Prince from the seventies. Through the first album, not CD, but album. You youngsters that are fans since the 80's just don't know what it was like back in the day being a Prince fan. You just haven't been in a real war until you had to defend Prince against Rick James and Confunkshun! Good Lawd! Maybe one day yall will it get.... fan since 1978... 1. The fact you've become bored seeing the same old subjects over and over again is a reflection of how long you've been reading Prince messageboards etc. It is not an inevitable result of being a fan for 15 years or an indication that you're more of a "true funk soldier" than anyone else. There are people who have been fans for 25 years or more who have only recently discovered forums like this, For some of them, the chance to discuss Prince with like-minded folk may be a new experience. 2. A forum for people who have been fans for 15 years of more would either become repetitive within a month or die out through lack of activity. There are only so many interesting original things you can say about Prince, believe it or not. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

WTF. Just provide your own "new, well informed comment" about Prince. Calling for an all geezer wing of prince.org won't change a thing. Mediocrity festers everywhere you go. And you just contributed to it.

Y'all better listen to Jamzone. He's dead on it! Back in those days, if a guy even remotely mentioned he liked Prince, he was put down furiously. All the stuff P did then was on the verge of shocking. Times have really changed.

So if only there was a forum like that... With all the extremely dull music on today's radio, it makes me glad to see some of the younger people look past what's on the radio and get into Prince or any other musician who is actually a "musician". I'm all for it as long as Prince doesn't start watering his music down to get a massive younger crowd. As for them asking questions that have been asked over and over again, they are new to Prince and don't know. As for a "true funk soldier", if you didn't get into Prince until 1985, that means you didn't get into him until he was a full fledged pop star. The "true funk soldiers" would be those of us who were into Prince years before 1985 when he was only known on R&B radio. A real funk lover knows that the place to find funk was on R&B radio, not pop radio. That is, unless you were too young in the early days, which is exactly the same thing you are frustrated with Prince's current younger fans. Andy is a four letter word.

All the stuff P did then was on the verge of shocking. Times have really changed. It wasn't like that at all in my area. I don't know where you're from but I'm from Mississippi which was, and still is, very, very, VERY homophobic. When it came to Prince, I had never seen nothing like it. In the early 1980s, black guys would kick your ass if you talked bad about Prince. I had even seen some of the most homophobic assholes, but when it came to Prince, you didn't talk bad about him. I've seen people get into almost actual physical fights over the whole "Prince vs. Rick James" thing. That was one of the things I loved about Prince, he looked gay as hell but his music was so hard and was the furthest thing from the limp wristed weak stereotypes. No matter what people thought of him, he made the baddest jams that could kick the ass of any entertainers out there. They couldn't resist. I never saw a backlash until Prince's style change in 1985. Even then, it was never the "Prince is gay" thing. It was the "Prince is trying to be white" thing. I never heard many homophobic remarks about Prince until the 1990s when everyone in music was trying to look like damn thugs. Andy is a four letter word.

I never recall people dissing P back in the day. P was the man back in the early 80's. I am talking about before PR. P had the music scene on lock, at least that was the case in Detroit.
When P was on tour with Rick James, it was promoted as Rick vs. Prince...even though he was the new kid on the block, it was well known that P came out as the winner. I know, because I was at that concert and that was all everyone was talking about. I was only 10 but I vividly remember that being the climate during that time. By the time the 1999 tour rolled around in 1983, folks were losing their minds over P. They had to keep adding shows for the Motor City. There had to be at least 6 shows at the Masonic Temple, some were a tmidnight. I remember going to the box office with my friend to get tickets and being so disappointed when they sold out while we were waiting in line. Fortunately, he came back a few months later and were were able to see him at the Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor. Where are the org Motor City Babes? I know there is someone out there that can back me up on this. [Edited 4/28/06 9:58am]

Were you in junior high school trying to defend a man who had a symbol for a name and wrote "Slave" on his face? If so, us young 'uns will start our own forum.
Gimme a break. Fifteen years ago, I was almost 8. You gonna shut me and others out for not being old enough to remember the "Purple Rain" era? Be glad there are people here who are my age or younger who appreciate good music and may actually know something about it. We'll be able to pass that knowledge to our children, just as my parents did for me. [Edited 4/28/06 10:24am]
