If the albums were reissued! Now that would be a collector's dream! Here's how I would propose it!
(Kinda like the Bowie Ryko reissues with bonus tracks but better packaging). Release all albums up as far the Gold Exp. (excluding NPG/Girl 6/The Hits etc.) All albums remastered with cardboard slip cases that fit over the standard CD shell (perhaps slight purple tint boxes). All slip cases would have alternative art, with the original album artwork complete in the standard jewel case, together with new liner notes and rare photos. Phase One For You (2 bonus tracks, perhaps a color shot of the bed photo for slip case), Prince (2 bonus tracks, Pegasus shot on slip) Dirty Mind (3 bonus tracks, Color shots of original album and outtake photos) Controversy (3 bonus tracks) Phase Two 1999 (2 CD set, outtakes, extended versions, live tracks on bonus disc) Purple Rain (2 versions - 1 single CD with 5-7 bonus tracks and second option for collectors that inludes the Syracuse DVD, 2 Tone crying face on slip) Around the World In A Day (With 3 Bonus tracks) Parade (One version only - as many as 7 bonus tracks on the disc and DVD of the birthday show) Sign O' The Times (Remastered - with exclusive weblink where you can download the additional tracks to configure the original Crystal Ball! Perhaps a very limited deluxe set with a Camille CD!) Phase Three Lovesexy Tracked , with the 6 12" Single Mixes as bonus tracks (This is not music etc.) Batman (with 3 bonus tracks, perhaps another novelty like the bat tin) Graffiti Bridge (Limited pressing for collectors with bonus DVD of Nude Tour Tokyo) Diamonds and Pearls (Limted Collectors pressing with holograph cover and bonus DVD of Gett Off Video EP/Diamonds and Pearls video collection Symbol (Limited Collectors pressing with bonus DVD of 3 Chains O' Gold/Ryde Divine Come (Limited with bonus tracks and additional DVD of Beautiful EXP) Gold Experience (Not as limited as the others, extra tracks and DVD containing VH-1 Special/and Glam Slam gig). 16 albums: 2 double CD sets: 8 single DVDs: 7 CD/DVD combos (some limited pressings). They could easily do 100,000 prints of most sets and in some cases many more. Oh and of course if they were trying to be cheapo about it they could make the last batch of CD/DVD combos on the new dual disc format, where one side has music, the other DVD content...though in a small number of CD players the audio does not work...
also, you get the idea with the slip cases, they could feature radically different artwork or outtake cover art (Parade could have a monochrome picture of him in that mad hat or could be full color, for example...it would definitely draw attention to the reissues and make them very desireable. fantastic idea, but cant see it happening to be honest.....but we can only hope one day something similar will happen....
For one he would never agree to a reissue of Dirty Mind - too rude for the ol' rude boy!

Well, they could certainly do it...the royalty issues etc.
would not be a problem...it's been done with other reissue sets (and most musicians are life-long friends of his. In terms of the deal with Warners it could be structured as a totally new deal with the old versions of the albums ceasing production or perhaps being scrapped. Depending on the volume of pressings it would certainly take less than 2 years to sell these special editions and as a sweetner Warners would be free to use the remastered recordings on future standard issues of the albums (look at Bowie's work...after the Rykos the albums went back to having no bonus material). Single discs could be a little more expensive the usual and the DVD packs could go for top dollar 19.99 and up I know many of Prince's 90s albums did not sell very strongly, but many people would collect this if pushed as the most expansive reissue campaign ever and a definit investment. Most record stores woul bulk buy the issues.

oh indeed jstar, that's one thing that is...well, disturbing about Prince...
i mean, i guess you are right...he goes in and messes with stuff like Days of Wild because of his religion!! so i guess it really is his unwillingness to do something like this! because it could so easily be done and executed. he made a lot of bad business moves in the 90s (obviously has an all-around God complex!) after diamonds...the sales steadily plummeted except for the Hits collection and Crystal which was made to order. It was mainly due to his stand offishness with companies (though a decline in quality control after 95 is also a huge factor). RE-issues make business sense and are great to preserve the legacy...and i think the market could absorb this volume of material... he never did release a lot of home DVDs...only a few of the albums would have a lot of previously unreleased material...and who cares at this point? If he can release 4 digital download albums online at a pop, he can release his entire back cat. in phases over a year... [Edited 4/27/06 18:17pm]

It would be great.
But Prince would probably want to edit or even pull certain tracks as he did/requested with the forthcoming 'Ultimate' set. 'Ultimate' is the last Prince album WB can release, so I guess we'll see?
