P albums you have only listened to once

Why are all you fools disssing on albums when u have only listened to them once???
Lots of you so called fans/fams post on here saying that you bought an album put it on when you got home, then didnt like it the first time round and now say that you hate it.

WHAT THE FUCK???

How can you possibly talk about (let alone hate) a P album when you have only listened to it once. If you were real P fans you would know that a P album is a grower. SUre there will be tracks that instantly grab you by the head or balls and throw you around the room.

There has never been a prince album that I have instantly fallen in love with or instantly hated. Each one has grown on me over a period of time. I only recently got through 1999 - even after owning it for close to 20years!!!

Lots of posts here talk about NEWS being a shit album. Most of you prob dont know much about jazz but it seems you aint willing to learn neither.

NPS has some killer funk moments on it. NPS, mad sex( hot keys funk), freaks on this side (hot repeating crowd chant and bass) come on (how can you go past the part where he sings "I'm better off sleepin' with my guitar, If U ain't gonna sing, Strapped 2 the body, Makin' love 2 the strings "

All im saying is that you can hate or love whatever you like....but buying an album for $2 (bargain bin), spinning it once, then saying how much you hate it.....DONT GO THERE.

Why is it that people cannot speak intelligently about something, having to refer to ebonics and ridiculous uses of language? VegasE, are you not embarassed by your idiocy?

I agree whole-hardedly with u. U really can't claim to be a fan of any particular musician and then discard their work after only one listen. That surely points to the shallowness of the listener and not the music. I can listen to prince for years and still find "newness" in old works. Just last night I was listening to "200 ballons" for the first time a good long while. It was never one of my favorites (still isn't) but I marvel at the structure and arrangement.I hope that most of the one listen and toss crowd are children. That would explain it.

Thankyou. Its good to know that there are some out there that understand what I am saying.
I do not pretend to love every single song and piece of music that P has produced or released, but after 20 years of listening to P's music i definately give him the benefit of the doubt and the respect of more than 1 listen.

I guess I did that with Rainbow Children, although I probably listened to it twice and it took me years to give it away.

There are people like that. You could know someone for years, not think much of them, then all of a sudden one day you spend some time with them and they're brand new to you. And you go, "Whoa. How come I never noticed you before?"

I think I've listened to "The Truth" and "NEWS" all the way through only once because none of the tracks caught my ear and I knew they were the type of tracks that I could never get into no matter how many listens. On "New Power Soul", I listened to it straight through only once but kept coming back to "When U Love Somebody" and playing it over and over. Nothing else on the album caught my ear at all.

You know, the good thing about Prince when compared to so many other artists out there is that he has tried many types of musical styles. This is good and NOT bad.

Although I may not agree with everything or every musical project he brings out, I do respect him as an artist who has the balls to try something different. NEWS didn't really do it for me and I have yet to listen to it all. The same for The Rainbow Children. Does this make me less of an admirer of his talents? No.

I've listened to his music since 1980, does this make me more of an admirer of his talents than anyone else here? No.

I'm sure if a Prince Jeopardy gameshow comes to be I won't fare all that well compared to the knowledge that some folks have here. I would put my money on Boris for that. But, is even Boris more of an admirer of prince's music than me? No.

See, the problem arises with trying to cover up the fanaticism with the letters F-A-M. If you want to be a fanatic, by all means, go for it, and enjoy life as you do, but don't belittle others and problaim them less a "fam" for not enjoying any particular type of genre.

I do agree with you on one thing, though. Yes, DO NOT judge a book or CD by it's cover. And definitely give a new CD a spin at least five to 10 times before saying you don't like it. All music grows on you eventually.

But don't trip on someone's initial thoughts of a cd after only one listen. I myself would find more credibility in someone saying they've listened to the entire cd a few times and still can't get into it as opposed to the person who has heard it once and dismissed the same cd. Just my two cents, though.

lol Some of you crack me up. Listening to music shouldn't be like a homework assignment. You either like something or you don't. You don't need to punish yourself by listening to something you don't like several times. Once is enough.

One Night Alone Live

There's a part where he's asking if it's better to give or receive, and he says, well then give up that seat to that person over there.

I'm thinkin', motherfucker, why don't you give up your hiarstylist for a week to that lady than. Shit!
didn't think so rolleyes

I skipped several songs on that CD, and haven't listenned to it since.

Why do some people care SO much about what other people's relationship with Prince's music is, or their appreciation of this or that album, and want to keep scorecards or establish criteria on what makes a fan "a REAL fan"?

Just enjoy the music yourself and don't worry about the other guy, or if they're a 'real fan' or not.

These pissing contests are so stupid. lol

"(Eye Like) Funky Music" from Newpower Soul is some of the funkiest damn sh*t I've ever heard! That whole album sizzles from beginning to end!!!!!

and you sir, shouldnt tell people to like albums that they obviously cant get into.
You said you hated 1999 until a wee while ago!!!!
What kind of a bullshit statement is that?1999 kicks so much ass compared to albums that people hardly like ie NPS,News, etc etc.
and another thing... i dont know many real fans in here who would be happy to be called a "fam" disbelief
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

People aren't forced to listen to anything they don't want to, but someone who only listens to something once can't be trusted when they say that it has nothing to offer.
