Why is Prince's back turned to his audience?

since 3121's been released,i have compared all of his other cover photos.
And he always faced the camera - dead on.
the most famous is probably Controversy.

anyone have a theory?

He doesn't want anyone to take notice of his several removed rib bones.

He wants you to concentrate on the music and not his beautiful face.

I always just took it that since the letters were stitched onto the back of his outfit, clearly he had to face that way for the album name to appear on the front cover...

To me, the cover seems very dark and serious. This goes against the vibe of the album which, bar The Dance, seems quite uplifting and jolly.

I wouldn't mind betting that there is definitely some meaning to this that we haven't worked out yet. All his other covers are either obviously significant or just straightforward and non-cryptic. This one suggests meaning, but doesn't obviously show it.

Hopefully, there'll be more than just 3121: The Music.

a few days ago,I took a co-worker out to lunch.
the first thing she noticed in my car was, my car copy of 3121.
I asked her what she thought about it musically.
and if she liked the cover?
She said she had not listened to Prince in a while and was'nt sure if he still made music.she also liked the cover and said it reminded her of a "comeback".
It made me think.
It must mean something.
