Other than Purple Rain (which I stand firm with my belief that this is
the best album ever made on the face of this earth ever in time...EVER) Sign O' The Times I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. I know this is going to sound odd, but i dont consider Purple Rain a soundtrack.
I see it as the opposite. I think the film accompanies the music. So to me Purple Rain is a filmtrack. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything. |

I was actually thinking about "Purple Rain" being the most visual Prince album precisely because he was preoccupied with the making of the film. He mentions "painting a perfect picture" in "Beautiful Ones" and "Dig if you will the picture" in "When Doves Cry." It's also the first album title that is a concrete image versus a conceptual idea ("Dirty Mind," "Controversy," "1999.").... Anyway, the best Prince soundtrack: "Purple Rain." Best song: "Beautiful Ones." | |

And at the debut live performance of several Purple Rain songs (including a few performances that were actually used for the album), Prince performed "A Case of You" which has the line, "Oh I am a lonely painter; I live in a box of paints." It also contains a line about drawing a picture on the back of a coaster. 
Soundtrack: Purple Rain Best song used in a movie: "Purple Rain" -- it was the perfect song for that moment -- it conveyed everything The Kid had gone through, and brought resolution to ALL his relationships with other people in the movie. Plus, it's one of the best songs ever written or performed. For good reason, the album and song were both huge milestones for Prince. | |
