I like Musicology better then 3121 Am I the only one? News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Me too! Been saying it for ages. Despite all the hoo-ha about the actual "3121" track, I think Musicology actually is a bit more experimental and personal.

I think Musicology has more songs i think of a higher standard i just don't like the flat production of it though and it lacks personality, whereas 3121 is a much brighter album.

It's much better than 3121!

Musicology isn't the worst pop album he's ever made, but it's easily the least ambitious. It's almost depressing to listen to.
It always makes me imagine this desperate aging singer trying so hard to not turn off any listeners because he feels like this is his last best chance for a comeback. As far as pop records go, 3121 is simply so much better in every way. It sounds fresher, it has more energy, and Prince sounds about ten times as inspired on it. With 3121, it's like, he didn't succeed in making a great album, but at least it really sounds like he tried. Musicology sounds like he was only aiming for an album that didn't suck. Its funny how you can get opposite views from orgers on Prince albums, but i tend to agree with you on this one, I enjoy listening to Musicology apart from maybe Life O the party. 3121 im not enjoying at all apart from The dance the rest is poor IMO. Yes. 3121 is much more listenable and has less filler IMO. [Edited 5/16/06 10:44am]

"It sounds fresh, inspired, etc.... however, it's like a 33 milliseconds away from being great.." Just admit that you think it's a great album and stop all that roundabout bullshit... For the record, I only care for 4 songs on the album and I think Musicology was better.

Well I like Musicology but I love 3121. Both are very solid albums but the big difference between Musicology and 3121 is that Prince sounds like he's having fun on 3121 where Prince sounds like he's serious about proving that he's still got it on Musicology and it makes the CD sound safe and a little unexciting. Just my take on the issue. [Edited 5/16/06 19:29pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I like them both. What can I say I'm into prince's stuff. Musicology was the best album out that year and 3121 is the best album this year (IMO).

The truth is that 3121 is a very good album to me that falls just shy of being great. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Musicology is Borring.. 3121 is not..That's my opinion

Musicology wins in my ears. 3121 is too retro and "been here before".
3121 is the first Prince album where you could compare nearly every track with a track that has been released before. With 3121, people hear days of wild. With Lolita, people hear The Bird. With Te Amo, the cords Money Don't Matter With Black sweat....The Work Part 1 and so on..... Good album, but hardly moving forward. .

I listened to Musicology a bit, and quite enjoyed it, but I keep listening to 3121 - that basically says it all.
I have mixed feelings about quite a few songs, but it's just a much more exciting album. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Musicology sounds like the same JB retro track he's done a million times before, and it even lifts a synth line from My Computer. A Million Days sounds just like Dolphin, Call My Name is a clone of Insatiable, etc. I don't hear many Prince songs that sound like Fury or The Word. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

[Edited 5/16/06 8:40am] Right, like your second sentence doesn't perfectly sum up 3121. I agree with those who think Musicology a better album. I don't think there's a pop song as good as What Do You Want Me To Do on 3121 nor is the musicianship on 3121 nearly as compelling at Musicology. Musicology has some clunkers and I'd hardly say it's essential Prince, but the latter half of the album is great and Reflection is a great closer and far more personal than anything on 3121. Musicology isn't his best work or best pop album, but it's far more accomplished than the desperate, last ditch effort for pop acceptance that's found on 3121. No hard feelings.
