Many of us agree, many of us disagree, but I for one am glad you are exploring Prince's work. I'd get to it all at some point so you could eventually post your own opinions here.

In chronological order, I'd go with

Prince,
Dirty Mind,
Controversy,
Parade,
The Black Album (if you can find it),
Lovesexy,

The Gold Experience and
The Rainbow Children.

These would be my two recommendations as well. I'd stay away from Around the World in a Day for right now. Hit Dirty Mind, Prince, Controversy, Come, Gold Experience, and Lovesexy after that, and in that order.

Gold is one GREAT album, but it definetly shouldn't be your NEXT purchase. Get something from the 80's next. Get SOTT or Parade.

If I were u, I'd just roll with it and explore his catalog....hit napster....or aol radio (all prince network is a MUST!!).....all of the recommendations are gr8 1's...so if u keep up with the org, u won't go wrong....I am a hardcore fan and I picked up a pointer or two from the folks here.....

anyway i think you should get them all, but if you are unsure about how you will like them, go to your local second hand cd shop and buy everything they have. that way if you dont like them, you didn't blow all your money.

next, make sure you track down the black album. it is a must have
