Maybe it ain't the songs, maybe it's............

Maybe it ain't the songs maybe it's the videos! "Prince's videos suck", i must say. Prince videos are stagnant and has no imagination, if he would make fun videos with more imagination maybe his videos would get heavy rotation and his song would sell.

Yup.

Black Sweat isn't that great a song, but it's fun enough to be a radio hit.
It reminds me of Madonna's "Music", but her video was at least funny and fun.

Since Fury has a Hindrex Retro feel to it, Prince should do a live version of the song with a retro theme ala Hendrix.

I dont agree the video for Black Sweat, is sexy in black and white, which contrasts the light skinned Prince with the very dark skinned dancer. The camera shots seem to reverberate with the beat and the whole simplistic stark imagery adds to it(The emotion and urgency in the song, its driving beat and pulse of Princes lyrics and his singing). I actually think Black Sweat is one of his best videos since sexy MF. I dont think his videos were all bad, more average, as Prince wants to be known more for the song than the presentation.
I will say Black Sweat is a much better video than all this blinged out, booty shaking crap u c now.

If Prince did a video like Madonna's "Music" I think I would throw up. I would be utterly disgusted with him chasing trends so shamelessly.

I think the Black sweat video is funny with him standing there drinking a cup of fruit tea and the dancer well dancing.

Wrong. All wrong.
I know it's just your opinion...

But it's still wrong.

I like Black Sweat and some of other P videos, like The One for example. But yeam, most videos of his are boring, but he´s got few good ones.

I assumed he was speaking of the current videos. I'm not sure about the sales stats but the current videos...the 3121 videos, are both good.

I like her too but I've never bought a Madonna CD and I rarely listen to her music. But I'm always interested when she has a new CD out and that's only because I like her videos.

Don't like the latest however.

Now wait a minute. Think about Prince's biggest commercial sellers.

Purple Rain. Batman. Diamonds & Pearls.

Two are associated with hit movies and the third one featured his most expensive videos. And the Batman videos were probably his most imaginative visually.

It's when Prince poured considerable money and effort--and relinquished directorial duties--into the visuals that he had a huge hit.

Why do u think Purple Rain did so well? The movie and videos....

I agree Prince's video are weak.....he focuses on the MUSIC, which is what a musician should focus on.

When silent film became the talkie, actors had to learn to talk. Most didn't and the new stars were born. It's just the way of change. The industry has changed. Musicians have to also consider the visual. It's an opportunity to add another layer to their work.

True maybe they shouldn't have to focus on it but they should partner with those who do.

I agree with you but I don't think Prince has changed very much as it relates to video.
Perhaps it's not fair for me to say because I haven't seen all of his videos but most of those I did see, were good. I'm hearing of others here that I didn't know existed. Maybe they'll show up on the YT.

Anyway, what do you mean "I don't think Prince has changed... "? What would you have him do different? What would you have changed about the last 2 videos?

I like them as they are. However, I do agree that it would be cool if he did something cutting edge and extravagant. Something like Rain (Madonna)... extravagant like that. Maybe Fury or 3121 will be.

To me, I can always tell the effort that Prince puts into his music. The video's always seem like an after thought. Very un-creative....

We must remember that video shows are just that; a video show. So, you have too make vidoes with style and imagination to capture the audience you want to attain. A good video will get airplay on a video show and eventually radio stations will then it pick up.

Very good point...but what's your take on Te Amo Corazon? The song won't sell JUST because the video is good...I think Prince is trying, but I think he's lived in his rich/i'm a genious/dream world so long he doesn't get how to do anything fresh anymore. And he probably doesn't get much 'real' feedback. (Unless he comes on the ORG!)

take yourself back to a time when there was no MTV.....

are u there yet? remember? ....

just u and the music in tandem no need for interpretation,

why?

U have all the imagination right between your ears! U and the man, his creation feeding your need.

remember the time before prince.org? when u thought Prince was a genius.... ah that's another story.

Te Amo was a dreadful choice for leadoff single. I think Prince just wanted to hire Salma Hayek and check out her ta-tas up close.
