A ballad is a story in a song, usually a narrative song or poem. It is a rhythmic saga of a past affair, which may be heroic, romantic or satirical, political (affected by the previous three types mentioned, refers to either glorifying the exploits or causes of a particular leader or group, and is typical of totalitarian political systems), almost inevitably catastrophic, which is related in the third person, usually with foreshortened alternating four- and three-stress lines ('ballad meter') and simple repeating rhymes, and often with a refrain. Plus it's too upbeat. But can someone answer my question about the singles?

and while someone's working on that question ... can u give an example of a ballad from one of the other albums?

Call My Name and Sleep On The Couch were the 2 ballads from Musciology.

"Gotta Broken Heart Again" must be too simplistic to be considered a ballad, then. Ooh, little darlin' if you're
free 4 a couple of hours (Free 4 a couple of hours) If U ain't busy 4 the next 7 years (Next 7 years) Say, let's pretend we're married and go all night

This is the most redundant thread ever.

Can someone just tell me the singles and comment on the album?

I have seen vinyl only singles for Head and Dirty Mind. They're out there. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

"Gotta Broken Heart Again" counts. "New Power slide...."

Video Clips: Uptown and Dirty Mind (both available on The Hits Video Collection).
26 November 1980 - "Dirty Mind" single released The single only got to number 65 on the Soul Chart (backed with When We're Dancing Close and Slow from the Prince album). Mid-February 1981 - videos for Uptown and Dirty Mind are shot on a sound stage in Hollywood, using the full tour set. 29 May The Dirty Mind outtake "Gotta Stop (Messin' About) is released as a single (with Uptown as the B-Side) in England in time for Prince's visit there. The single was re-issued a few weeks later with Uptown replaced by I Wanna Be Your Lover as the B-Side (neither single charted). am I missing anything? [Edited 4/26/06 7:45am]

[Edited 4/26/06 7:45am] I've definitely seen Head as a single somewhere in real life. Whenever I go to a record shop, I check out the Prince vinyls and CDs. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

When you were mine is probably the best song on this one. Then Dirty Mind, Do it All night, Uptown, PartyUp. That is if I'm remembering things right.

Singles: Uptown Dirty Mind Do It All Night (U.K. only) Gotta Stop Messin' About (U.K. only) Head (U.S. promo 12" only) Yep. That's the way I remember it. I used to have "Uptown". "Crazy You" was the B Side. Andy is a four letter word.
