Is it possible since it hit #1 ..that's all he wanted?
He proved his point and doesnt want/need to do anything else under the promotional guidelines..

BUT he SHOULD CARE CAUSE this ALBUM is GREAT and IT DESERVES STABILITY on the CHARTS and a GREAT TOUR. I think he just wanted to see how it would FAIR but he should REMEMBEr that he has got to stay VISABLE with a PRODUCT. Maybe he is Busy or Upset with Something. [Edited 4/25/06 19:17pm]

He proved his point and doesnt want/need to do anything else under the promotional guidelines.. if that's all he feels about this record...a mere chart position...then he's more of a sell out than any appearance on american idol could make him. i certainly hope he cares enough about the work he creates to support it and promote it. otherwise its like he made a product and not a collection of work. if that's how he feels, he's no better than any of the business execs he bitches about.

so what was his reasoning behind previous releases that were met with little to no promotion? rave comes to mind here.

No it's all about the Tamar album being Postponed is what I think. That's why he isn't caring about so much about 3121 and something has Got to be up if he Cares More about her Career and Success than his own.

Musicology was posted in lossless format on usenet mere hours after the first concert where they gave away CDs. IIRC that was before the album was released to stores. © Bart Van Hemelen

Rave wasn't promoted? Please check your facts. http://www.uptown.se/2005...rave.shtml " initially worked hard to promote the album, giving numerous interviews and appearing on many television shows throughout November and December 1999. Since the recording of the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 TV special, though, he has done little to support the record." © Bart Van Hemelen

I never saw Prince on german TV shows (and mostly every day on that week, performing and interviewed) so many times. Back in the 80ies there wasn't that PR [Edited 4/26/06 6:56am]

Rico said: You're wrong about albums appearing on the Net prior to their release date.
For example, just did a search for Stadium Arcadium, the new album by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, not out until the 9th May, and it's all over the Internet as an "illegal" download. This sort of thing happens all the time with new albums, particularly with popular artists. I never said it never happens. Madonna's shit seems to leak all the time. I'm talking specifically about prince products. . [Edited 4/26/06 16:16pm] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If I'm not mistaken with Rave Prince did a bunch of promotion for an album that Arista had no intention to push. They booted Clive Davis to his own label and basically abandoned the Rave project. Anyway that's what I remember hearing what happened with that particular album. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am sorry that is major failure. Yes, P could go on some T.V shows but most people get their exposure to music from the radio. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes but, I am sure we will find out soon enough. Isn't it gonna be kinda surreal when say, in five years there will be a new Prince bio, and we will read about what is really going on with this whole Tamar/3121 craziness?

This thread had sadly sunk to some very low depths, and numerous 'gottahavethelastword' posts which frankly, were more than a little immature/pathetic.
It took me ages to clean that whole sorry mess up, and as such, this thread is now being monitored very closely. So to those previously involved, abuse it - you lose it. The rest of you guys: sorry about the interuption, do continue... BC

I think Universal has really blown it with 3121 and her project. C'mon now, you can't dare say Universal didn't set Prince up right with this? This was the best promotion he'd ever had and he didn't show face. Did he think this was Around the World in a Day 2006 where he could just throw the record in shops and see what happens? Despite the release of two singles that went nowhere... Willa Wonka style promotion, print/television ads, debuting at # 1 (a feat Prince never accomplished in his Warner years) and you've got the audacity to blame Universal?!!?!?! Please... Actually, that Willy Wonka thing was a brilliant way of getting his more - urm - fevered fans to buy multiple copies of the album, a bit like including a free copy of Musicology with concert tickets to ensure a high chart position. I'll have to hear most of Tamar's album before i buy it. I don't want another Prince protege album. I want to hear what SHE can do without heavy Prince influence (writing, production, backing vox). I'm digging her voice, but I don't know if that's going to be enough to carry a whole album and I don't want another mostly Prince with her name on it album. I don't like BLB either so I'll have to hear some new original trax to make me even consider buying her album.
