I was really young when P first came out, like 8 years old. But I clearly remember P's first joint "Soft and Wet" cuz I thought it was a white girl singing and the name of the band was Prince! I really liked the song, but the cut that I dug the most from the album was of course "I'm Yours". I didn't really get into P seriously though untill his second album. I LOVED that album from top to bottom. It's STILL one of my faves from P. So, that's when P joined my list of faves alongside other's such as KISS, Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy, Bowie, etc. I was 9 years old.

the songs that hooked me..was the first prince song i ever heard when it was brand new...my brother took the plasic off the "album" he had just bought...he put the needle on the record of side 1...and the song began to play...controversy.....so that entire album is what hooked me...every since then back in 1982...i still jump when i hear a prince song...doesnt matter which one...

its got to be cream I was in mpls when D&P came out. had fun. met a load of fans mmmmm memories.

"SISTER" -
Yup, "Sister." Never, ever heard anything like it before. My older brother bought the DIRTY MIND album. He still reminds me that my exact words to him when he showed me the album were, "What did you buy that shit for?" Then everytime he played it, I loved it. "Sister" was the one that just used to make me go insane. Dancing around, air guitar, just going nuts.

"CONTROVERSY" -
the next Prince song that I played over and over again. I was fascinated by the change from the scratchy funk into that lush chorus.

PURLE RAIN the movie -
I saw that three times in one week. Friends, family, and a date. It really was a life-changing film. Before the film Prince was just a guy who made some cool records. After the film and that album, he was in the stratosphere, light years above any artist on the planet..

Ahhh KISS/P-Funk/Bootsy/Bowie..1979 was a fun year, wasn't it B? (lol)

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" - Takes me back (as a kid) to seeing P in "Right On!" magazine with the gold spandex pants, perm, and gold neckchains. Just a great song.

"Erotic City" - Getting Shelia to sing those lyrics still blows me away. Made me really wish I was P. Did he say "funk" or the other "f" word was the big joke then. This song really should have been on the "Purple Rain" soundtrack.

"Controversy" - The opening beat and synth killed me the 1st time I heard this.
The lyrics are consisred tame today, but P was questioning some serious stuff then.

Honorable Mention - "Anotherloverholeinyourhead" - Classic jam..Sounded nothing like what was on the radio in the summer of 86, but still somehow fit in. R&B radio played the hell out of this one. PARADE rules.
