Interestingly, my boyfriend (who is Jamaican) was confused about whether Haile Selassie and Ras Tafari r the same man. He still doesn't believe me that they r...he never thinks I'm right...good grief. rolleyes

Huh? What you talking about now? His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia is highly revered and bestowed many accolades as King of the spiritual home of Africa (and Rastafari) by many Jamaicans.

He was not however universally declared "Jah" (Short for Jehovah meaning God) and rather seen as "the living God fo Abraham and Isaac".

I pity your Jamaican boyfriend in more ways than six... rolleyes

Did I ASK U all that? No...cuz I already knew it! Makes sense, huh? lol

Im on the subject because ice9 and some1 else brought up Bob Marley or something. ~Scroll up~ dumbass.

It's funny because at the end of all my threads I always c ur name as the last post...u must really like me 2 go following me around like that.

lol

You stated Haile Selassie and Jah Rastafari were one and the same. They're not. You were wrong. So you didn't know. Anyway... rolleyes

I was referring 2 Ras Tafari. All these other names I don't know about and I'm no expert on rastafarianism but this I know:

Ras is an Ethiopian title given 2 governors who rule the provinces.

Before becoming emperor (thus "Haile") he was a ras...Ras Tafari. This is because his full name was Tafari Mekonnen.

He named himself Selassie because it was the name of one of his teachers or mentors or something, my mind's a little unclear on that. However I did read that these were the same person in an encyclopedia so I guess u'll have 2 blame that.

In short "Jah" and "Haile" were not seen as one being. That's all I was pulling your tail to.

Your Jamaican boyfriend was essentially right, you owe him an appology.
