Questions about NPS artwork!:

A few days ago I blew the dust off my New Power Soul album and gave it a (short) spin...

I was looking at the (strange) artwork and noticed a sign 4 "Thalamus St" on there twice. U know with Prince how everything has 2 symbolize something...I figured maybe it means something...or not. biggrin So whats it mean?

Also...WTF is with that little electrical thing that says "grease" on it? I just don't get it and I feel as tho' maybe I shouldn't have asked. eek

ALSO...In the lyrics 4 When U Love Somebody, right under the phrase "in the backseat 4 a little while" there is some sort of blue writing but I can't make out what it says.

And one final note...that one illustration 4 the waitress and the woman asking "What's in those cups?"...has any1 else found double meaning in this? lol

Who drew this troubling stuff?

The thalamus is a part of the limbic system within the human brain... its connections to other components of the limbic system are partially responsible for emotional response.

Nope... Prince seems to have read at least a tiny bit about neuroscience... he also talks about endorphins which are endogenous morphines, along with enkephalins and anandamide.

I believe the electrical thing with "grease" on it is a guitar pedal. U know, to make it "greasy"!!!

The word "not" is underneath the phrase, "in the backseat 4 a little while".

I love picking the brains of the other orgers too Nep. U can pretty much find out anything. When I read the post, I said to myself, "nobody's gonna know this." Guess I was wrong.

Speaking of New Power Soul. Everyone always says, how badly "Until Ur N My Arms Again" sux. I don't agree I think it's a beautiful song.

I think he's adding the "not" onto the next line ("but eye don't care"). As in "I do care".

You are so very, very welcome...

smile

Here are the lyrics to a song that Bob Marley wrote after the death of H.I.M. Jah Rastafari, Haile Selassie I:

JAH LIVE

Jah live! children yeah!
Jah-Jah live! children yeah
Jah live! children yeah!
Jah-Jah live! children yeah

The truth is an offense but not a sin!
Is he who laugh last, children! is he who win
Is a foolish dog bark at a flying bird!
One sheep must learn, children! to respect the sheperd!

Jah live! children yeah!
Jah-Jah live! children yeah
Jah live! children yeah
Jah-Jah live! children yeah, Jah!

Fools sayin' in their heart
Rasta your God is dead
But I and I know Jah! Jah!
Dreaded it shall be dreaded and dread

Jah live! children yeah!
Jah-Jah live! children yeah
Jah live! children yeah
Jah-Jah live! children yeah

Let Jah a-rise!
Now that the enemies are scattered
Let Jah a-rise!
The enemies, the enemies are scattered

Jah live! children yeah!
Jah-Jah live! children yeah
Jah live! children yeah
Jah-Jah live!

Yeah Once you made the Jah Rasta Far I it hit me. I read this poem a while back when a friend of mine (a big Marley fan) thought I would enjoy it. I did and I don't know why it slipped my mind.
I think because it's 1 a.m. here and I need to be the hell in bed.

It is written all kinds of different ways...

Jah Ras Tafar I
Jah Rastafari
Jah Ras Tafari

But I do believe that you are correct in your spelling...

My grandmother claims that he is distantly related 2 us. By marriage, not by blood. But every time we talk 2 her she adds new stories so I'm not sure what 2 believe. lol

Me? I don't look on him in any sort of divine way. I really don't understand it. But then, I haven't read in2 Rastafarianism that much...maybe that will b my next endeavor. wink

Interestingly, my boyfriend (who is Jamaican) was confused about whether Haile Selassie and Ras Tafari r the same man. He still doesn't believe me that they r...he never thinks I'm right...good grief. rolleyes

Actually in my opinion... NPS was the last good Prince record, and the people who didn't get into it didn't because they don't appriciate the darker side of life. They want only the sweet and not the bitter. That album was just that, Bitter. Bitter and Funky.

I also just noticed that both Mayte and Mani are mentioned in the thanku's. Do you think he was knocking of Mani behind Mayte's back lol or had they already split by then?

Unless you look at the artwork for "GCS2000" or "Come 2 My Kitchen" and then it is exactly the same as these two.

Edited because I somehow thought that the GCS disc came out 1800 years ago and unfortunately Neps quoted me which means that I really can hide this fact.

Huh? What you talking about now? His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia is highly revered and bestowed many accolades as King of the spiritual home of Africa (and Rastafari) by many Jamaicans.

He was not however universally declared "Jah" (Short for Jehovah meaning God) and rather seen as "the living God fo Abraham and Isaac".

I pity your Jamaican boyfriend in more ways than six... rolleyes
