missed idol opportunity

let me get this straight, the guy entered his first week at #1, he's an american icon, the most versitle talent in music history and somehow he and universial couldnt tamper with the format a little?. hell, it's prince?? change the fuckin format to suit who he is (famously shy) and what he represents (real music and real legendary talent). He shouldnt have to sit next to pootbutts like simon and paula should be sittin on his lap. I would have him handpick several contestants ( girls of course) and have him hang out with them in the studio supervising a session of an original song. put him in his comfort zone!. Then i might sit him at a piano playing riffs and answering a few pointed questions. Then let the kids butcher a few songs from purple rain while he isnt present, then give him 15 minutes to rip it up and throw his guitar in the air. but he never ever ever has to talk to anyone as insignificant as simon.

What IS a pootbutt?

I think Prince banged Paula already anyway.

I'm sure Prince is very happy you weren't running things.

I love how fans fantasize making Prince do what they want. Like he's not a person that can make his own decisions.

Prince knows what he's doing. He's the man in charge of his musical career.
clapping thumbs up!

By appearing on SNL and the Brits Prince showed he was keen to promote his new album to the mass market. Hence it wouldnt have hurt to do some kind of thing for American Idol. Some fans get too precious about Prince being too good for certain shows or certain artists (duets etc). As someone who has loved his music for nearly 25 years I have to say that American Idol could have been an opportunity for him to inspire just a few of the kids out there who would otherwise have thought that getting into the industry was about jumping about in front of three "judges" and singing a mariah/usher song rather than picking up a guitar and learning how to play and compose.

No, I didn't say that he was too good for American Idol. I just expressed confidence in the decision he has made. Prince is the man

I think a Prince appearance on American Idol would be a great opportunity and not necessarily kiss the corporate machine's butt...He could always give his own advice on music business to the contestants and be himself. He doesn't have to agree with everything..so many people are lambasting the whole process, okay, let's give up and bury our heads in the sand. Wake up, this is life, deal with the channels available currently. In fact, him interacting w/other prospective talent would make him alot more human, show his personality, his musical genuis, the list goes on..

Um, I don't think the thread starter was finding fault with Prince, but finding fault with AI and its producers for not deeming Prince worthy enough to alter the format a bit and have him on...because from all reports Prince would have indeed gone on AI if he didn't have to follow their standard template and shmooze with the judges and contestants.

That show is the Anti-Prince. It represents everything that sucks about American music.
