Give one thing you like and dislike aboout Prince in 2006. There seems to be a lot of current fans who are dissing Prince's new stuff and atthe same time pining for the old Prince. So I was wondering what exactly do they think about him today. Why are they still hanging on?
But at the same time, is there anything they do like about him? as for me, i love how he is still being a stubborn dude and doing his own thing but within the industry that he works. and yes, his music is still exciting to me. more importantly his live shows. there aren't none like it. what i don't like, is how he no longer is the great synthesizer of musical styles he used to be. on the old albums he melded more than one style on any given song but nowadays, he just has a rock song, or a funk song or an r+b song. they are pretty str8 up. that's all from me. next.

Sorry ...I couldnt resist throwing that one in.
Ok,..this is the deal. Prince at his height...80's to early 90's,...was so staggeringly creative and expressive and left such an impression on so many of his fans,..that they stick around because theyre still in awe of his previous accomplishments. His talent was so immense that people still believe that he has it in him to return not so much to the music of the past per se,...but to the cutting innovation and vital imagery of it. Both of which in recent years have become bland and pedestrian by comparison. Image and style wise he was constantly innovating things that took you to another world. Now its all very down to earth and plain,...and kinda pedestrian. Also I think he has painted himself into a kind of corner. With his musical talent he could be writing ALL kinds of music,....Not just pop/r&b/rock. He could be expanding his instrumental and compisitional range,...but instead....it has gotten narrower and narrower. But this is a result of probably many complex things. One is that his complete psychological control freak tendencies have had definate creative consequences for him. To the point where now musically,.. he has become more of a follower than a leader. Whats so frustrating for many ,...is that he probably could become a leader again,...if he didnt feel so obligated to be "current". And just follow his PURE creative heart, like he did in his prime,...instead of being led astray by all this mentalized, censoring and judgmental spirituality he's hooked himself with. I only dislike the fact that The Twinz and Támar don't show more skin like Carmen
