Why did Prince give these songs away! I firmly believe Prince has given away some of the best songs he has ever written. If the NPGMC could give me one request, a CD of Prince orginals, in this order!:

The others, well, maybe he just wanted to share. [This message was edited Sat Jul 20 12:20:03 PDT 2002 by XaltedOne]

To get more of his music out to the public. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

probably because about half of them sucked. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

if so, who were they? I know most, but not all, like: all day all night The Dance Electric Neon telephone Loves no fun Come Home Telepathy who did he gave these to? You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Prince singing "Sugar Walls"?
I don't think so... I'm sure that this was an idea he had for Vanity/Appolonia 6 but he gave them "Sex Shooter" instead. They were defunct by late '85'. Sheena's vocal skills brought something that any other female in his camp couldn't duplicate. Ahh... Those were the days A day when a real singer could sing a funky dance/club song without "Over-rated drill-team choreography".

He didn't give Nothing Compares 2 U to Sinead O'Connor.
I think how that came about is that Prince and Sinead had the same management company or something like that. Nothing Compares 2 U is a Prince song that was recorded by a protege act called The Family. It was the manager who worked with both Prince and Sinead who brought the suggestion to Sinead that she record the song. Prince did not have any input in the recording of the song. Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor went on to be a No. 1 single selling 4 million copies and getting a Grammy nomination for Prince. Prince and Sinead had some kind of falling out and Sinead vowed that she would never perform Nothing Compares 2 U again. Prince recorded Nothing Compares 2 U with Rosie Gaines, and this version is on The Hits/B Sides CD.

Judging from people's reactions when he plays Nothing Compares 2 U, I'm probably in the minority on this, but...
I feel Sinead's rendition of it is FAR superior to Prince's recording/performances of it. The only reason why I like him playing it is it allows me to use the bathroom or smoke without missing anything. Of course, I Sinead's a "goddess" to me and that song just beautifuly displays her vocal strengths and subtleties...

From what I can tell it seems like most Prince fans like Sinead's version better than Prince's anyway.

Nothing Compares to You - Love Rosie's version with Prince from the 2000 Video, and Kathy Jenson's solo!

You've got to be fucking joking. I'm a fan of Sinead, and I think she did a beautiful job on the song. But Prince & Rosie's version blows her out of the water! I can't imagine doing anything but languishing in bliss when that song comes on. Listen to Prince sing "tell me baby, where did I go wrong" and tell me it doesn't give you chills.

But I still prefer the originals by TheFamily 2 Sineads version even tho it is superb. And I rate Prince live version on the hits as good as Sineads classic rendition. Anyway. "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

And I don't really like The Family's version either. I think it's sad that those beautiful lyrics never got the right music to them (in the studio). Prince's current live version rocks, IMO...the way he sings the last verse, especially "...but I'm willing, I'm willing, I'm willing, I'm willing, I'm willing to give it another try..." has a lot of power, IMO.
