I wonder if you let your daughter listen to "If I Was Your Girlfriend"? It's nasty. Housequake is not.

I guess it depends on which angle you are coming from, the sexual content of Prince's lyrics I would not have a problem with with my kids listening to (apart from Sister), two people having Sex that are in love is a totally natural thing and is only dirty and sordid if promoted that way. I see Head as a love song. I think the point here with regards to Housequake is that kids shouldn't be swearing per se. At 8 or 9 years old they have no understanding of the sexual connotations anyway. In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

I know this is not the purpose of the topic but we have just had HQ on in the office and my designer turned around and said that P sounds like Cartman from South Park
The funny thing is that he does [Edited 4/21/06 4:22am]

LMAO, some of you people are hilarious. I especially like the morons who shout "BLASPHEMY!", LOL. What idiots.
Hey, she's heard the word before. But if you have kids - and I can tell from your posts who does and who's still 13, LOL - even though you KNOW they're going to hear words like this, you still want to keep it out of their vocabulary as long as you can. Thanks for the good, serious advice. I don't have a Mac, but I think I can figure it out from the suggestions given. Thanks to everyone who gave good advice, and thanks to you others for making me laugh.

No, I didn't put that one on her iPod, either. Housequake isn't nasty, but it has a bad word in there a couple times.

Oh yeah, believe me - I was sweatin' it out in the old days, fearful that one of my kids would put on "Let's Pretend We're Married". But then came the iPod and that solved all my problems. I only burned the songs they can listen to on their iPods. Then I told them that any other songs on CDs were off-limits unless they asked Dad first.
I like your take on how to explain the cursing. superspaceboy said: Personally, I think it would be blasphemy to edit that song. WHy not wait til your daughter is older for her to be hearing language in music. Or simply explain it to her that during this period in P's life, he felt it appropriate to swear in his music, but that doesn't mean it was apporpriate or it's NOT appropriate for her to say.
What if she picks up Purple Rain? Or 1999? Best to explain things to her now. It's not like she's not hearing these words outside of the house. Or maybe she isn't, but my guess is that she's heard cuss words before.

LOL, I already have the edit of that one, but I've never thought much of that song.

I thought about telling her he's saying "Bush sucks!" but while that may be true, it's really not any better.

Thanks, I think I have that single. I never thought of that. Thanks again.

To be honest i dont really consider shit to be much of a swear word.
It manages to sneak its way into PG(parental guidance) movies quite regular. But in saying that she is your daughter and i would/could never tell anyone what is right or wrong for their children. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Now do the same with "Head". It will be their favourite song! .

Go to Preferences (in the "iTunes" menu in the Mac version). Click the "Advanced" button on the top of the window that appears. Click the "Importing" tab, which is one in the middle. Where is says "import using:" and there's a pull-down menu, choose "WAV encoder." After you import a track, you'll want to change it back to AAC encoder or MP3 encorder...otherwise all the tracks you import will be in .wav format, which is uncompressed audio, and the files are big (about 10 MB per minute of audio). wave edit [Edited 4/21/06 9:34am] Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. Co-sign. Listen to the song while your kid is not around or get over the oh so nasty word.I mean, the next logical step would be to bleep words on DVD movies or TV shows you're watching, right ? No one is qualified to make any judgements on how one person chooses to raise their own child, so let's drop that. The original poster wanted help creating a clean version of Housequake, not our opinions on what his child should or shouldn't be listening to.
Thanks to Boris, BTW...I had completely forgotten about the clean version of Housequake on the 7" U Got The Look single. To that point, everyone complaining about the original poster's desire to create this effect can just lay off since Prince himself released a version of the song with the same effect. 2ยข Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. That's true. Made no statements about child rearing. What I did was say that altering the song is blasphemy. Here's the definition: irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable. And for expressing that opinion on a public message board dedicated to the person who recorded the song, the original poster says I'm an "idiot" and a "moron". I expressed an opinion about what was being done to the song, not a personal attack against her. My http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Read the first post. It's HER favorite song - not mine.
And SHE knows what the word is and SHE wants it taken out, too, so she can play the song around her friends. When you have kids, you'll understand. beatz01 said: kisscamille said: Why anyone would want to ruin a great song is completley beyond me. This is the way the song was intended to be heard. Yeah, sorry about the "moron" and "idiot". I was trying to be sarcastic. My bad, I just associate "blasphemy" with God, and while I think Prince is the absolute nuts (that means "good"), he isn't God.
