New Power Soul is funkier than 3121. ok not James Brown funky but it's own late 90s stylee. in fact it's tons funkier than 3121 and Musicology and TRC (altho i love TRC more than NPS, 3121 and Musicology).

HEAVILY AGREED!!! CEPT...TRC and MUSICILOGY are 2 different funks...TRC is jazz funky and MUSICOLOGY is modern day Prince funky.

I hate NPS...but in a way I have to agree with you....despite what alot of people are saying I don't think 3121 is very funky at all. The title track is the only tune that inspires my to move my body - it causes my index finger to move rapidly in the direction of the "skip" button - otherwise...nothin'.

and in fact i would go as far as to say that NPS is a better
album than musicology.

altho, musicology is more cohesive i guess. still, NSP seems
to be ageing rather well with me.

Actually fans who dislike NPS r likely "pop-rock lovers" Prince fans. Any M.F. who digs soul & funk HAS 2 agree that NPS, in terms or r&b heritage, is one of the funkiest Prince album ever.

Milty, I agree. I love NPS, it's funky as hell! Much more so than 3121. Which is alright, it's just not steeped in the true essense of pure FUNK!

Funk isn't everything. There's more to Prince and more importantly, more to music than just funk.

NPS will always be one of Prince's weaker works in my mind, right up there with Come, though pheremone's lyrics were totally genius. 3121 is INVENTIVE, yet not inventive at the same time, It is main stream with a twist. I see no artist with as much variety as this man. He is either a genius, or brain damaged.

Well I'm one of Prince's biggest funk loving fans since 1979 and about the only thing funky I hear on the album is "When U Love Somebody". The rest of the album is mostly shit hop and shit hop definately ain't funky.

The best lyrics on the Newpower Soul album are better than the best lyrics on the 3121 album too.
