I just read some stuff this morning that shook me up REALLY bad! And it concerns 'email identity'. For those of you who are not familiar with this, simply put, email addressess can be used to trace and find you. Even if you have taken the pains of not revealing any information about yourself by ADOPTING SCREEN NAMES that hide your identity information such as: where you live, what web sites you visit, your social security number, possible criminal records (the list goes on!)--all of this can be found through your email address even the old ones you've DELETED! Screen names on AIM's are, to the best of my knowledge, never deleted.

So what does this mean for us? When making comments and postings about Prince, or anyone else for that matter, do not commit SLANDER or LIBEL while speaking your mind. Be RESPONSIBLE. It against the law. All Prince needs is to get your email address and have his lawyers present it in front of a judge who can sopena your internet provider for your personal information. Then your internet provider will sending you a LETTER stating that there's a LAWSUIT against you! YES, the court can do this despite the fact that internet providers guarantee the saftey of your identity! 70 people have already faced lawsuits through this exact process!

Also for those trading bootlegs of Prince's music, it is assumed you know the RISKS involved with this. Not only can Prince find you and sue, but it is a federal crime and he can have you thrown in jail! And all it takes is an email address!

actually, it's neither illegal to own or trade bootleg recordings in the US, only to produce and sell them. on the other hand, selling and producing bootlegs is legal overseas, hence why bootlegs are generally foreign releases, where it is legal. put those two factors together, and it is legal for someone in the US to pruchase a bootleg recording from overseas, where it is legal to produce and sell them, thus the person puchasing them has commited no crime.

once you are the owner of that bootleg, you can keep it because possession of a bootleg recording, as I sai, is legal.

Scary but true. In a chat room a long time ago someone said that they were going to kill a certain purple shorty. The chat got logged...and sent to someone affiliated with paisley park. I didn't expect anything to come of it, and really SHOULDN'T have logged the chat in the first place...but it was a long time ago.

Anyhow, I was at work 4 days after having emailed the chat-log to an AFFILIATE of paisley...and my cell phone rang. It was the police from another state asking me information about the person who threatened the short paisley one's life.

Now, this was my CELL PHONE. I had NOT given my Internet Service Provider the number to my cell phone and even less to paisley park, but there were the police on my cell phone asking me about this idiot who threatened prince.

When I asked the officer on the phone where he'd gotten my cell phone number his reply sent the weirdest chills down my spine. The answer was "the head of security at paisley park."

Now, I REALLY don't have an overblown sense of importance, and quite frankly should NOT have done it in the first place, even if the guy making the threats was a douchebag that almost everyone who has posted on AMP has had to deal with in a negative way...but it was done...I felt like there is now an FBI file on me and some weird file on me in the security offices at paisley park...so am I paranoid or can PRINCE FIND YOU?

The guy who made that threat was actually a member of Prince.org for a short while (he may be a member even now, but he hasn't made it clear), he's infamously known around online areas related to Prince. He also told the story about the cops going to his house not long after that.

I always known that the privacy in Internet is only an utopia. I no that is really easy 2 take informations about us and it doesnt need necesserly of the email adress. Its enough an Ip number.

Laws exist just the same on the internet. Only difference is the way you can get caught. Now HIGHRISK...if you would start by first making a lesser big deal out of Prince and this website and make sure the link to the article is correct then we can see where you get your information from and maybe get a discussion going that makes some more sense.

wrong again; recording, reproducing and distributing performances of copyrighted works without the permission of the copyright owners and/or performing artists is nowhere legal. The only room there is in europe, is an obscure and controversial law in Italy which lets cd production companies press recordings of performances of copyrighted works that were not recorded with permission without risk of legal action taken against them. Selling and trading in bootlegs in European countries is still very illegal.


And thus also a completely wrong conclusion. It is not a crime if that someone was NOT aware, had no knowledge, that what he was doing was purchasing a bootleg, but it is wrong nevertheless. According to your logic anyone can buy bootlegs "overseas", that is not the case.


If it is not made clear that the copy you posses was purchased by you with the knowledge of it being a bootleg, and thus illegal, you can keep it. Howveer if you have tons of bootlegrecordings in your home and the owner or the "feds" catch you with it they can sure as hell confiscate all your infringing copies.
