At 338,000 now...unless something unforseen happens, like a Fury becomes a hit.It looks like this will get to about 500,000. (half of what Musicology sold RETAIL)

Yeah,it looks like this album is gonna reach gold status, but probably not platinum in the States. But that's still an impressive figure for an artist who's been around as long as Prince has.Hell,Stevie Wonder's latest CD only went gold in the States, and I think that's cause for celebration.Radio ignores artists who are considered "old",so we can't expect these folks to sell records like they did in their prime.

I agree - good post. Almost 30 years and he is still charting in the Top 50. The artists with this kind of staying power are very few (and rare) So few that you can post it on this thread:
- Beatles (30+ years and not even together)
- Elvis (30+ years and has left us)
- Michael (30 + years with influence still being felt - Usher, Chris B., Ginuwine, and on and on and on).
- Barbara S. (30+ years and still packing the houses)
- Stevie (30+ years and still charting - and influencing (John Legend, A. Hamilton, etc.)
- Sting (30+ years)
- Bruce (30+ years)
- Prince (not quite 30+ years, but getting there! - and doing very well in an era of manufactured artists - really doing better then most mentioned above).

Now looking at all those who is really actually burning up the charts with 30 plus years?! (Really none with a few notable exceptions - The Beatles last few releases have been doing quite well). Of course this list is not inclusive, but one gets the point 1978 and we will be in 2008 in no time. So congrats to Prince (and Stevie) for still making great music and giving us great catalogs while still collecting g/p plaques.

Hey DayDreamer!

NPS and Rave is crap compared to 3121!

"3121" is a good album!
There are so many crap records out here and yet they sell like hot cakes!
Its not about quality, its about promotion these days.

I don't know how many records I bought simply based on promotion, cause it seemed like everyone was buying it and got it in my car and listened once and gave it away.

"3121" has been in my player since the day it was released and I might be biased because I am a prince fan...but I don't like everything he does.

But I DO LOVE 3121!

Hello NPD313,

I feel you brother, believe me, I'm trying to get into this new cd but man, still not impressed. And also, there's so many people with the obsession of Prince being #1 in charts and that kind of stuff, I don't believe on charts, I just believe in music that I like.
