Emancipation - and I tried to con myself into thinking it was a grower, well I'm still waiting for it to grow on me. Its pretty boring really and so was NPS, to be honest TGE wasnt up to his 80s heyday either..

The Rainbow Children, listened to it once, read the lyrics, threw it out.
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

Under the Cherry Moon, the movie, 1986. I'm not saying I didn't and don't enjoy the hell out of it myself, but I do remember being pretty embarrassed having dragged my friends to go see it in the theatre, and I knew from the first half hour how much shit he would catch for it.

Listen to it again. If you still don't get it, listen again, and if you still don't get it I recommend suicide.

When I got Grafiti Bridge. I was like man get rid of half the songs and youve got something.

ALso I didnt like Lovesexy the first few listens. The lyrics were so corny and too relgious and there was no funky sex songs on that record.

how about:

can't stop this feeling I got
god is alive
new power generation
the ? of U
soul psychodelicide
elephants & flowers
get off
we can funk
joy in repetition
thieves in the temple
if I had a harem
still would stand all time
god is alive (reprise)

fcuz, Thieves in the Temple would be the LONG ASS version smile

Yes that will work, I need to make that playlist on itunes. I didnt mind round and round at all, but it wasnt prince so it was kind a weird, and Shake! was OK too, but I want Prince when I buy a Prince record.

Agreed. In 1985 wouldn't you have just torn that up?

I would still love a shot at her TODAY! That woman gets sexier each year!

What r u on? Madonna looks SO DRIED UP it is pathetic. I love her music (though her last few albums have been something to be desired), but come on, she could really use some help in the beauty department.

I'll go with Graffiti Bridge the movie as well. I thought it was going to be in the same vein as Purple Rain, in Minneapolis you know, and then you get this fairy tail wonderland type of set and all. I just think it could have been sooooo much better.

Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic. I had only begun getting into Prince in 1999. After buying The Hits 1 and 2, Purple Rain, Parade, and Around the World in a Day, I thought I'd go ahead and see what Prince's newer stuff sounded like.

Boy was I glad that it wasn't my first Prince release, and that I still had Sign 'o' the Times, 1999, Lovesexy, and Dirty Mind to look forward to. Otherwise, I might have bailed right then and there.

well, yeah the movie Graffiti Bridge was certainly the worst thing he'd done up to that point (and one of the worst films ever made) but at least it was still Prince. He was still prince until he tried to become D'angelo, R Kelly, or a hip hop homey...

Mine goes to Controversy. I just bought the album a few months ago, and I completely underwhelmed by it - In fact, aside from the title track, there's nothing that I can see myself listening to again.

At least with records like Grafitti Bridge and Emancipation, I'd expected the worst and found them to be decent records. Controversy, for all the praise its garnered, just isn't an interesting record in my eyes.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but that's the great thing about Prince's work - It polarizes fans as much as it unites them, it seems.

Biggest disappointment, was Emancipation being released and forgotten, hello promotion. Then no album for 1997 (official fresh one, not expensive box sets of historic songs or quirky band albums).
And then finally mid 98, NPS!!!! What utter crap, the One was the only listenable song (and superb video) still enough to scare me off Prince until Musicology.
My disappointment is not sticking with Prince through the difficult 1997-2003 period. Mostly because of an underpar 1996!
17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic- hands down. *shakes head* IMHO the best song on it was written by Sheryl Crow! That's just wrong to me. I'm going to give you kids some slack in going through the old Prince archive and finding things you don't like. It may not be in sync with you but- he struck a nerve then. I believe that Prince has largely been in step with the western world as a whole until the point where he was seeking to be in step with his new religion. I don't place shame or blame on the Jehovahs Witness influence I just say simply- it's a step in his own direction. *shrug* But I will slam those who slam 1999 and I will slam those who slam Grafitti Bridge- Controversy too- because the man paved roads that didn't exist before. Well- slam is a strong word. I'm tellin' ya- you just don't understand. Grafitti Bridge was a crap movie- yep I'll say that- I worked on it. It was crappy in a lot of ways but it WASN"T crap music EXCEPT for the title track. P- was trying to do something there - I don't know what it was- maybe it was a mass accepted "over the rainbow"-esque anthem- I don't know- but I don't slam him fer trying. It's a positive disc- I like it for that. 1999 and Controversy - 1999 especially was new new ground- a funk, rock fusion that few have been able to touch- and if they could touch it they couldn't hold it- ie. Lenny Kravits.

I was an extra - and that was pretty much the lowest rung of the totem pole. BUT I did get paid some dosh to shake my booty to Prince tunes that I'd never heard before. My back is HUGE in the Prince club biggrin (i'm wearing a silver, gold, and black paisley jacket and black mini skirt.) and I have a few moments on screen in Morris' club too (red plaid jacket girl).

I do wardrobe and props for film and video stuff these days- but back then I was in college and was working the "talent" angle.

"Graffiti bridge" and the "thieves in the temple" single really disapointed me back in the early nineties.

still don't like it today except a few of the songs.
I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert

Pretty Man is cool but its a bonus song and sounds nothing like the rest of the album smile

Crystal Ball disapointed me when I bought it but have grown to like it a lot now. Same with TRC and actually a lot of his later stuff.

hearing 'hundalasiliah' initially, then the next minute or so, then looking to check it wasnt the wrong lp that was put in the sleeve. (i saw the little paisley sign twirling around)

all them lumped together, i dont think i could ever be more disappointed after what had come before it (and not knowing he would release other crap in the future)
