For Young Prince Fans!

I personally as a young prince fan,15 years old, I'm really thankful for having an open mind to music and stumbling onto Prince. He is such a great musician and honestly i feel bad for people my age who dont take part of music such as his. I feel a lot of music nowa days doesnt really have purpose they aren't even musicians anymore...barely any of them write their own songs or play instruments. I still listen to some of the stuff we have out today but honestly it cant TOUCH what Prince has done. He has feeling and alot of the stuff today is just a pretty voice against some lousy backround music that all sounds the same. I feel bad for our generation there aren't many people that make real music.... Tell me at least ONE person feels my pain.
Nothing about me is FALSE...thats why my love is REAL

i've been a fan since i was 6, got a tad more interested when i was about 11 but became hardcore when i was 18 (took me long enough i know)
so i know what u mean nod
it's frustrating being introduced to such an intricate catalogue of music, and then being able to look for artists who share the same passion of music...finding them, and then not being able to share that passion with friends your own age cuz their in2 plastic artists... disbelief

but keep with it nod

I've said this many times before. But I try to put myself in their shoes...it's one of those "Ignorance is bliss", "You don't know what you're missing" type things. It really does make me feel thankful. nod

I kno what you mean. I'm 16 and have felt this way a little after I discovered prince. It's a shame. I was in chem today and the teacher asks whats the most popular song on the radio. The people told her it was that "I was gettin some head" song or w/e and the teacher couldn't believe. Then she goes on to me and tells me if my mom caught me listenin/singing to that i'd be dead, but i responded "i listen to REAL musicians like Prince. She looked relieved and happy i think i might get a FREE A this marking period cool
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

It's alright Baby. This generation's music as a whole sucks! There is some good music out there as Pleasure brought out but it is hard to find them and they are few and far between. So be happy that you are superior to your freinds and can notice GOOD music and REAL musicianship! I really fear where music is going these days because there is so much of it that is so horrible with no substance that I wonder what the future of popular music will be like.

I'm 21, and liked prince since i was 4-5 with the batman soundtrack, but only really got into him about 4 years ago. It was when i found out my 2 favorite rappers(2pac and Jay-z) both considered prince as their musical hero. I went back to that batman album I had and loved it ounce again and I've been picking up a new prince album every few months since. I now have more prince albums than any other artist.

I am totally feeling you. i am constantly trying to convince my ignorant friends that this generation of music pales in comparison to the last couple of generations, however most beg to disagree. Everything is so contrived and manifactured these days.
I wonder what its going to be like when we have children, they will be listening to music that was 40 years before their time. Depending on the child they will probably think we are such geriatric losers. Lol. I so don't care, I can be such a music snob sometimes, especially as a Prince fan.

I totally agree that music as a whole has totally gone to hell. However, look at it in a different way. You are young and have tons of old artists to explore for the first time. An old whore like me has lived through and just about heard everything so there is nothing for me to look forward to except whatever new album Prince comes out with. Y'all have a whole world to explore.

Many of us that are older shake our heads in disbelief at the state of what the younger generation has to offer them in terms of music. Luckily many of us had the 80's music...and while much of it was pop trash...it was good, and original and had at least some integrity to it, as there was a lot less being manufactured back then. Back then you had to sound different..not the same in order to succeed.

Keep looking for the good stuff, because it exists...you're just not going to get exposed to it on the radio. You're on the right path.

it's awesome to see younger fans getting into Prince. I was a die-hard fan at 11 years old, when Purple Rain came out, and have been ever since. I was a more casual fan before then - i loved the singles from "1999".

If my folks knew what I was listening to at that age, they would have died. Heheh cool

I think a big problem (for popular music in general) is that the electric guitar as an instrument has fully evolved (at least for rock/pop music)... The 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s were neat as guitarists were constantly innovating... I wonder how it was like for fans seeing Hendrix at Woodstock for the first time... or seeing Eddie Van Halen performing "Eruption"...

Now the electric guitar has kind of stepped out of popular music... if innovations are taking place, most people aren't seeing or hearing about it.

ha.....I'll take the neighbors kids too. But most of them like hip-hop for which I would go if it were free. I don't get anything out of it. Even the Roots bored me and they actually play.
