The Hits 3

If you had to make a compilation of Prince's "hits" from '94 to present what would the tracklist be? Some albums I wouldn't include, like THE BLACK ALBUM (because it's originally from '87/'88), CRYSTAL BALL (compilation), , ONE NITE ALONE... (the piano album & live album - it's all one "special" release). But you can include whatever you want to, of course.

Hit's or best songs?

If it were hits, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and Musicology would probably be the only two. lol

Though my Gym plays Cinamon girl alot.

Even 1st collection of "hits" weren't all true hits. In fact quite a few were simply favorites.

This is a list that I feel takes the best of each album ("the singles") and fits it onto one CD. I include SHHH because it was made 'popular' by Tevin Campbell. Also, DOLPHIN was promoted as a video. And I've left 3121 out for now because it's still fresh.

1. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
2. Space
3. Dinner With Delores
4. Letitgo
5. Shhh
6. Somebody's Somebody
7. Dolphin
8. The Holy River
9. Come On
10. Call My Name
11. The Work, Pt. 1
12. Gold

those wouldn't really be my personal choices, but as far as compiling
a representative disc of singles and 'hits' goes, i think you nailed
it 100% there.

perhaps include "she loves me 4 me" which was released to radio and
got a fair amount of airplay in europe at the time.

and "the one" which was a single and the video was on quite heavy
rotation -for P standards at the time.

oh and "the greatest romance" nod
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Then there would be the Remix Album ala Rave In2:

1. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Mustang Mix)
2. Space (Universal Love Remix)
3. Dinner With Delores (Don't Think there was a remix)
4. Letitgo (I know there was a maxi, but can't remember the title)
5. Shhh (leave this one alone)
6. Somebody's Somebody (Ultrafantasy Mix)
7. Dolphin (See 5)
8. The Holy River (Radio Edit) damn that song was long
9. Come On (Rap Remix)
10.
11.
12. all the same

I actually made a The Hits 3 disc about a year ago:

1. Come On (Live On Leno)
2. Old Friends 4 Sale
3. Letitgo
4. The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
5. Reflection
6. Space
7. The Holy River
8. Musicology
9. Dinner With Delores
10. Orgasm (Long Stroke): This one includes the poems on Come to make a longer song.

Here's one that I made. A few things to keep in mind:
I know these are not necessarily "hits", again, some of the songs on "The Hits Collection" were not "hits".
Also, I am concentrating on a good flow, rather than chronological order of release. It actually flows nice once you listen to it. Lastly, I tried to get at least one song from each album/era.

Prince: 1994-now

1)Pussy Control (club hit and good opener;"good mornin' ladies & gentleman..")
2) Black Sweat (keeps the sexy synthed out dance groove going)
3)The Greatest Romance (slowin' it down with a funky ballad )
4) Dinner w/Delores(easing into mid tempo showing diversity of Prince's sound)
5) Lovesign (the hit that should have been)
6) Supercute
7) Call My name
8) Cinnamon Girl or Dolphin or Fury (guitar time)
9) The Ride (THE guitar song of that era)
10) Days of Wild (like The Ride and other live staple)
11) Most Beautiful Girl in the World (keeping with the 1994/95 era)
12) I Hate U (TMBGITW's evil twin and time to get bitter and angry)
13) Face Down (still angry & imo one of Emancipation's best)
14) Come on (the best track on NPS and a good follow up 2 Face Down)
15) Letitgo ( getting over the angry stuff and letting it go)
16) A Case of U (time for healing)
17) The Holy River (more piano healing and guitars building to up to...)
18) Gold (the epic, arm waving, anthemic finale; )
19) Musicology (the encore and perfect "baby, I'm a Star" type closer. Don't touch his stereo...)

*** I don't really think "Betcha By Golly Wow!" is a stand out track from Emancipation plus, it's a cover so I didn't include it. Plus I know I missed The Rainbow Children. That album is hard to carve up. I used to have Everlasting Now as a finale instead of "gold". Also, sometiimes I put "dinner w/ delores" in front of "Call my name" to ease into the ballad. You may have to use edits or self edit some of the songs.
