I find it interesting that you believe Prince would sing that lyric and think the US Gov't had no clue.

do you honestly believe Prince was privy to info the US Gov't did not have simply because Prince voiced it publicly and the Gov't did not?

The following words, as detailed above, were chanted by Prince during the intro go-go groove for the last song performed during the aftershow, 24 December, Tivoli, Utrecht.

'I've gotta go home y'all
I've gotta go back to America
I've gotta go get ready for the bomb
Osama bin Laden getting ready to bomb'.

The last line is repeated a number of times with some additional ad-libs (call-outs to 'Holland' etc).

Then, as the groove builds, Prince cues the familiar melody to Richard Strauss', 'Also Sprach Zarathrustra', which was used as the main theme to Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

The cue given by Prince at around the 2'15" mark is:

"Y'all ready? 2001 in here ... Holland".

Then, the 'Osama bin Laden getting ready to bomb' chant is repeated, followed by 'America, ya betta watch out, 2001, hit me' to cue the theme once more.

The reference to bin Laden was likely in the wake of the bombing of the American Embassies on 7 August 1998 in Tanzania and Kenya.

The reference to '2001' was the cue for the Strauss lead line, commonly played on the tour rather than a prediction of bin Laden bombing America in that year.

OMG!!
And I can remember my job conducting a disaster drill on Sept 10 as well.
We have had more fire drills than I can count, tornado drills etc. (work in a federal building). but never had a disaster drill before that day. And nobody knew what to do... because we never ever did that drill before.

I have the feeling officials knew something was up as well

Not to jack my own thread but I have to agree with you on not releasing all the facts.

Like that plane that went down.. the heroes that overcame the hijackers and sacrifice themselves. Great made for tv movie plot.

I just have one question... how does an airline determine that a plane is "in the process of crashing."
That was the news for more than an hour before the news came out that a plane crashed. I know because I was driving around in my car at that time and heard the breaking news over and over for about an hour. I remember thinking, "if they know that the plane is crashing... maybe they can try to help them land the plane or get emergency vehicles in place."
Oh and the crash site... nothing bigger than a matchbox found. No black box, no fuselage, or tail, or wings... just a black hole in a field. no witnesses (they have witnesses and pictures of the other hijacked planes... the space shuttle incinerating, the plane going down in Miami... even though these events were pretty much unannounced. but not a single one, not a single witness of this crash. although it was national news that there were several planes unaccounted for. I know... because I looked upward to the sky several times that morning.
hmmm Didn't the attorney general tell the story about how his plane was almost mistaken for a hijacked one and f-16 were in contact with the pilot of ashcroft's plane to assure the airline pilot was in control??
I wonder if the same thing happened to the hijack plane, and no airline pilot was found to be in control What do you think the f-16 would do to that plane???

Osama was in a cave for fuck sake, he didn't bomb anything.

Now if Prince had sung: "On the 1, George Bush and his daddys cronies are gonna start some truely evil shit, 2001, blame some CIA sponsored sand monkey in a cave, and then proceed to take away all your civil rights and liberties, while sending some young and niave off to die in a phoney war, watch out y'all! Maeceo!"
- then i would say he was on the right track...

A couple of things to ponder..

There wasn't a bombing. If Prince had sung about crashing planes then it'd be more interesting.

Who's to say Osama didn't get his idea from listening to a Prince bootleg? There goes the prophet idea.

No. Oliver North made several statements that he felt Osama was a HUGE threat.

Slightly off topic, but given the fact that I'm on the other side of the water and not privy to all the info, does anyone actually believe that it was a 'plane that hit the Pentagon building?

Looks like some sort of missile to me. That WOULD be a bombing, then.

Given the perceived paranoia of the time, I'm surprised Prince wasn't asked some "official" questions about this.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I know there are some conspiracy theories about the Pentagon attack as well.
My husband had a video or avi about people's doubts about the pentagon attacks. But I don't remember them.
As far as Prince... I am curious as well. Maybe he did have a visit by the FBI and the meeting was handled by Prince's legal counsel. I am sure many people were interviewed and it was never made public because there was nothing to tell.

What is your question? Why I posted the question? Or specifically about this post? If it is why I asked the question, I wanted to know if Prince indeed wrote a song about an attack on the US before hand. I thought my question was clear.
shrug

If you are referring to this particular post... well, someone suggested that Prince could be psychic... and some of his lyrics are somewhat mystical and cerebral, and I was considering if he had some psychic tendencies... then realized even to consider this possibility is ludicrous.
I thought this post was clear as well. I guess you missed my humor.

Im pretty sure that Prince keeps up with current affairs.
Osama Bin Laden had been responsible with other terrorist attacks prior to 9/11.
He had been on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list for quite a while before the attacks on the USA.
It could have been an unfortunate educated guess that something might well happen.

And here is a repost of your very own 3 questions in bold. Indeed, these are questions..... nod

Did Prince sing about 2001 attacks in advance?
I just noticed a thread on another fansite about some aftershow in 1998 where Prince sung
"I've gotta go home y'all...
I've gotta go back to America
I've gotta go get ready for the bomb
Osama Bin Laden getting ready to bomb
America... you better watch out... 2001"

Could someone please fill me in on how this is a coincidence and taken out of context?
(Not seeking for agreement, huh?)
I am sure there is more to the story.

Was there a big when in 2001 USA was actually attacked by Osama Bin Laden??

Pretty wild stuff.
