When YOU NAIL IT speculating on forthcoming Prince albums.... OK, so almost everytime I speculate on how a Prince album is going to sound before it is released, my speculation proves to be at least half wrong. And more times than not, I'm totally wrong. But I nailed N.E.W.S, One Night Alone, and Musicology (all recent Prince recodings). I knew exactly what they would sound like before they were released based on pure speculation. What albums have you been able to "Nail" prior to thier release? Also, have you checked out my "Prince, Anal Stimulation, Foreplay, and George Clinton" Thread?

"Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic", I knew the album was going to sound like that even before its release was announced. It was just so obvious.

I was half wrong on that one. I knew it was going to sound glossy and poppy. I just didn't count on the songs sounding so uninspired.

Well, I couldn't tell the Linndrum was going to be used on some of the songs, but I just couldn't see at that time any other alternative that Prince continuing with the songwriting and production style of Emancipation or NPS.

I don't know, it just seemed obvious that he had to continue in the same rut for a while at least. NPS was such a letdown for most, it had to be that for even for Prince if he was being truly honest to himself (he had to be aware on some level that NPS was very substandard), and with the next album he had to just show that he can do the same better. Otherwise as a songwriter and a producer he would have been admitting to failure, in a way. "Rave" was an improvement, but I and many others thought whatever gimmick he was going to use to adorn the songs (turnt out to be guest stars and some vintage instrumentation on few cuts), he was going to be stuck with the same production style no matter what. He had something to prove. It still followed him all the way through the "High"-material, those were very predictable as well. Natural progressions like that can be predicted beforehand, for you can hear even from the previous record whether the artist is starting to get bored of his expression and wants a change.

Beautiful Strange is on it too. I prefered UN2's version of Man 'o' war and Hot Wit U. But even the versions I prefered on whichever album, were not enough to make it sound inspired. It just sounded like a really long compilation of batman b-sides or something. Except Pretty Man. I loved Pretty man.

I nailed it with , The Gold Experience and 3121. I knew I was going to really like those albums, if not love them and I do. I tried not to expect anything with 3121 but I just had such a positively strong feeling about it and thank goodness it was what I expected and needed. I missed it with Emancipation and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Right now...unless it's a concept album, I expect to hear this sound he's in. It's a mixture of all of the output since Rave. I call it "Cool sophisticated R&B" It's "Classy".
I expect the JB moment ala Prettyman/the work/musicology/get on the Boat I expect the Rocker - Baby Knows/Fury/Man in your life The cool ballad - Te Amo, She loves me for me, The dance Soul Ballad - I love U but I../Satisfied/On the couch Fun Number - Lolita, Life o the party, Vavoom, High Hip Hop - S&M Groove, ICP&C, Hot wit U The Moment - Judas Smile, Love, 3121. If he were to cull the best moments off of the last few albums, he'd have a killer album to rival SOTT. Christian Zombie Vampires
