Sadomasochistic Groove - Beck influence?

I know that Beck obviously is influenced by Prince, but I was listening to Sadomasochistic groove today and though thatthe distorted rap sounded a lot like it had been influenced by some of Beck's Mellow Gold era/Odelay era distorted rapping.

Also, the guitar is great, and while not sounding like Beck, it has the same kidn of noise effect that Beck is fond of.

Any Beck fans here? Listen to this song and tell me what you think!

i think 3121 sounds more like Beck, but I don't think that Prince was trying to do that, it just came out like that.

yeah that's totally what i was hearing too. i wouldn't be surprised if he's listened to some Beck. the two have similarities, regardless of whether they have influenced each other.

Never thought about it like that myself, always just saw it as another NPS-era plastic funk/pop affair, but now you mention it.....

I havent ever listened to Beck boxed

SM Groove is funky as f**k though.
I have neglected it for too long going to listen to it now.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I hate both S&M groove and Silicon. They're so bland.
They sound like songs farts in his sleep.

piss off, you're on your high horse about everything! you obviously haven't listened to much Beck, because as you will see I am not the only one who hears some similarity, though i am not saying Prince was necessarily influenced.

Dude, I was listening to Beck BEFORE he had a hit. SM Groove sounds NOTHING like Beck, even if some other deaf idiots agree with you.

but 3121 does! But only because it's a live arrangement in basis, the organ, the cartoonish vocal effects, the few pseudo psychodelic picturesque lyrics.

ocadv

i do indeed hear some beckishness in 3121...

Prince is my favorite artist... Beck is my second...

It is very difficult for me to truly respect any other artist when compared to Prince... but Beck qualifies. He's what i'm listening to when I'm not listening to Prince.

Anyone who can not get into Beck is missing out on something special... like those people who aren't into Prince.

The Dust Brothers produce Beck albums (most/some). Would love for them to produce a Prince album. In fact, Prince could just let them loose in his vault... then see what happens!

Anyway.... try Beck - start with Guero and move backwards.
