Nearly Every album from 78-88 NEEDS REMASTERING!

Especially parade and SOTT.

Batman on the other sound great which is a fucking shame because out of the two 87 albums SOTT is superior but sounds inferior?

Some songs sound clear, loud and awesome and some WHOLE albums sound crappy.

Why does 'i'm yours' sound great but 'girls and boys sound shit?

Problem is Prince doesn't give a shit about his fans.

It's great that people are becoming more aware of fidelity. However, I think for the sake of those who love the "song" certain comments lately about mastering and remixing could be left to maybe the "musicians" forum. LOL! Man, I got a ton of older demo's that I "wish" I could go back to and re-record. Just ain't got the time brugh'! I do however agree with some of your statements to a degree. But I repurchased "songs in the key of life" by Stevie Wonder remastered. And somehow someway it just doesn't have the grit it did before. Someone raising the level on a tambourine or bass guitar distorts my memory of the "way" I initially fell in love with certain songs. Feel me?

i totally understand. when i first listened to "ziggy stardust", it was on used vinyl - the crappy old original RCA pressings. and there's a certain "sound" to that record, just from hearing it the first time that way, that means a lot to me. meanwhile, when ziggy was remastered and reissued a couple of years ago, i heard details i'd never noticed in almost 20 years of listening to that album...which was pretty mindblowing in its own right.

it astounds me how a perfectionis like prince could care so
little about his back catalogue.

it is simply beyond my understanding why there are still no
remasters. despite his troubles with warners and his new or
different beliefs, he would owe it to his own legacy to make
sure it was preserved the right way and presented in the very
best possible form to the general public.

I like Prince sounding crappy. That's what makes him Prince.

The entire Lovesexy album is one long passion filled ride and that's what comes through so much with this album.

For years I had so many problems with it and I would NEVER admit to listening to it in public.

If I had it on in my car I would NEVER roll my windows down.

Now on the other hand I realised I was probably embarrased because I liked it so much but I didn't know why. Part of it for me is the fact that it's flawed.

The song Anna Stesia specifically always makes me smile.

It's got two great opening lines:

"Have you ever been so lonely
That you felt like you were
the only one in this world.
have you wanted to play with
someone so much you'ed take
anyone boy or girl"

And then there's this weird little electronic noise that totally ruins the purity of the message. Like "WWWWWEEEEERRRRRPPPPP"

But in the same way you sense the passion there. He is in such a hurry to put the song out that he doesn't notice ALL those little imperfections.

I personally I think good for him. It's the message and sentiment of the song that's important.

Kerouac wrote that editing is also a form of lying. And I feel that with Prince's music.

His best music is when it's lucid and natural. An album like "Lovesexy" has that feeling about it and in that way I find it refreshingly honest.
Shut up already, damn.

Interesting thoughts...but speaking about Lovesexy and imperfections...Eric Leeds once said that it was quite the opposite of what you think, he said the album even sounded much better before Prince started overproducing it in his quest for perfectionism. So, it´s more overproduced than hurried out.

Yes but it depends WHAT he was concentrating on perfecting.

It's like if you check something straight after you have done it you don't always see the obvious flaws.

It's only after awhile when you go back and refelect on it that your mind is more free to see things differently.
Shut up already, damn.

Ahh, I see what you mean.

Anna Stesia is a great song....there´s a lot going on there, and I like the uplifting lyrics.

It's one of my fav's too ! smile

And I did notice on The One Night Alone Tour that the "WWWWWEEEEERRRRRPPPPP" noise had disappeared .

And he plays it slightly slower and more reflective. It seems to have a subtle mood change I think.

the whole lovesexy cd needs to be remastered and should not be one track only.

I've got the re-mastered one with all the tracks seperated.

I didn't know there WAS another one.

That does sound a bit annoying.

I think it would be a bit dangerous to have Prince remaster (or re-produce) his older stuff. If he applies the same production techniques he uses today on a song like Anastasia it would turn out to be something completely different sounding. Too crisp, too perfect…

Probably better if you buy something like Wavelab and give it a “boost” yourself on your PC. I did that for the Black Album a few weeks ago. Sounds great!

by the way, listened to ahdio show nr.8 recently and the version used there is definitely remastered!! Even in crappy mp3 quality the bass is very upfront.

I **Love** that little weeerrrp. It is precisely little strange grace notes (or noises) like that that make me love prince. He's quirky and interesting and all about sound (although not sound quality - clearly, the new album sounds terrible audio wise...like I recorded it on my home PC).

I could have sworn that the cassette tape of SOTT I had when I was a kid had booming bass. I clearly remember Housquake with these loud kick ass drums…

Bum, Bum, bum bum bum, Bum Bum

And now when I listen to the CD it sounds very lo - fi, like something a record company did purposely to create room for a remaster. I don't know.

I love it too. It's so Prince.

I literally have to stop what I'm doing and listen out for it.

The timing of the "WWWWWEEEEERRRRRPPPPP" is impeccable !
