That's surprising to see.

I pick:
Graffiti Bridge, because it was the first real chink in Prince's armor.

honorable mention:

Poom Poom--no explanation necessary

Right Back Here in My Arms--I was expecting a lot from Emancipation, and to hear this song 2nd didn't fill me with confidence.

Diamonds & Pearls--I like it okay, but I felt Prince was going in the wrong direction here.

OMG..you are soooo right about Peach.....you wanna know what's even worse? I saw Prince perform it live with Lenny Kravitz at the Palladium and you know what.....it still sucked!! lol At least Jughead is somewhat amusing.....

Now this is a sensible post.

Anyone talking about Tambourine in the same vein should be stripped of their membership.

I think it's obvious it comes down to Jughead and Graffiti Bridge in the end. And if anyone actually bothered to listen to them they would decide Graffiti Bridge to be ther more offensive.

"Everybody's looking for Graffiti Bridge..."

NO THEY"RE NOT!! NO-ONE IS LOOKING FOR GRAFFITI BRIDGE! NO-ONE AT ALL!!!!! I would rather listen to an hour long rap by Tony M
I'm testing postive 4 the funk

That's funny. Totally agree (especially with the sensible part...). At least Jughead isn't trying to be any more than what it is.

I hate everything about it...from the annoying loop of Kim Basinger's squeal (for lack of a better description) to the awful lyrics, esp: "Her hot pants can't hide her cheeks...She was pure every ounce, I was sure when her titties bounced. " barf BUT, amazingly, I actually like the version on ONA...Live. shrug I think because the music is better (no KB loop) and he only makes one abstracted reference to the original lyrics:
"Uh oh, here she come, y'all
Wearing them gold hot pants again
I wanna talk, but I don't know
She's a, she's a peach"
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I hate...

eek The sugary sweet Diamonds and Pearls.

eek The pathetic chat-up line that is Could You Be The Most Beautiful Girl In The World??

eek Pink Cashmere is saccarine.

eek Gett Off is Prince proving he's a one man sex machine but it's completely dry and humourless, unlike it's counterpart Head which is te-he school-boy humour.

eek Cream is so overly sexual - Yes Prince we get the point. No need to shove it down our throats, so to spaek !
Shut up already, damn.

ANIMAL KINGDOM! That is without a doub, hands down, the worst piece of shit I have ever heard come out the man.

It's thoughtless, and Stupid.!
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Well maybe hate's too strong a word but for me they are non-Prince songs.

They are contrived and fake.

The lyrics are full of false machoism and bravado.

They all sound too much like Prince is trying too hard to be something that he's not.

It's like he's portraying himself as this cool dude and really trying to impress his mates with the amount of girls he can chat-up.

There is so little of the real Prince in these songs.

It really is wam, bam thank-you mam...
Shut up already, damn.

Two of my favorites from 90-93... and all-time, too. wow. You really have never heard worse Prince songs than the ones you've mentioned? I really am just curious.

I mean, do you really find "Pink Cashmere" to be more saccharine than every one of his other ballads?

disbelief

Oh yeah I do.

He's got "I'm making you a coat of pink cashmere"...to rhyme with "I wanna always have you near" It's just oh what can I find to ryhme with "cashmere"....uh...oh...how about "near" !!!

That's what makes it fake. It doesn't ring true. You would NEVER talk like that in a conversation.

It's ryhme purely for the sake of ryhme.

It sounds very childish !!

I can relate at least to your reaction to the lyrics, then. I do remember feeling like they were contrived when I first heard it... I just think everything else about that track make it a classic, and I can forgive him for corny rhyming. The music swoons.

I must say that "I Love U in Me" contains one of my least favorite Prince lyrics of all time: "When we make love it's like surgery."

omfg

How disgusting is that? Always ruined the song for me completely. I just see a scalpel slicing skin, makes me cringe.

Yes I definaetly agree with you on that one !

I absolutely love "I Love You In Me" but for years that line REALLY bothered me and I cringe everytime I hear it. But the rest of the song is great, especially the lines...

"I promised myself not to come until she does,
but she took both hands and a liar I was..."

These have to be one of Prince's best lines ever. It completely rolls off the tongue and is completely natural and heartfelt at the same time as being slightly funny !

I don't think you could get much more honesty than those two lines !

So when I hear lyrics like "Let a woman be a woman and a man be a man, if you want to baby here I am." I think they are completely devoid of any form of realness.
Shut up already, damn.

It's simply incredible that no one has mentioned the god-awful "3 Chains Of Gold" yet.

"Damned If I Do" is the worst song on EMANCIPATION.

"Condition Of The Heart" is excruciating, due to the howling lyrics.

He's also ruined songs with bad, bad lyrics -

"This will be the day, that you will be hear me say, that I will never run away...If I gave you Diamonds and Pearls, would you be a happy boy or a girl? If I could, I would give you the world." Lazy writing, and stupid nonsensical phrases. Makes me want to barf.

"I've seen The Future and it works. If there's life after, we will see. So I can't go...like a jerk." Like a soda jerk? Beef jerky? A--hole jerk? What does that mean?
