When you have as many moments as Prince has had, it's IMPOSSIBLE to come up with one. It's like asking Michael Jordan what his greatest shot was.....

I love the Solo for its many different sounds.....I am sure there are parts of other Prince songs in the actual solo ??

Nah not even remotely, and even the Paris aftershow ("He's Got The Look") has a better version.

Never heard that one though I do have "an american in paris" which I thought was pretty lame for a Concert around the 80's sad

Y'all know his best ever moment is from The Camden Palace, London 1988. Also Just My Imagination. You know, during his solo when he finds this melody he repeats and then the bitch starts to sing/scream along with it. That was unbelievable. I would have started crying right there on the spot, had I been there.

Just My Imagination is a totally over-rated moment , its nice but nothing spectacular ,and I find it quite worrying that some of you think the greatest moment in Prince's career is him playing a COVER VERSION , christ almighty , he's made dozens of songs far better than JMI mad

Well, everyone will say that this isn't about the song or the performance of it, but the guitar solo. Which is a song in itself.

anyone who uses that phrase to justify their opinion immediately loses all credibility anyway , JMI is over-rated .

It's art, my friend. It isn't over-rated or under-rated. It's either liked or disliked.

It is art.

Was "Wade in the Water" with Prince & Patti Labelle also part of the Small CLub/Just My Imagination set?

People always talk about RRHOF and the recent SNL appearances as hallmarks of Prince's guitar performance.

I still say the PR-SOTT period featured his most dazzling guitar work. His tone was distinctive, pretty and warm.

I wish I knew how to replicate it.

But it was more than the tone. His scales were hitting. He obscured his blues runs a bit better, switched modes with far more fluidity and seemed to take more risks.

His playing, within the past decade or so -- though still very, very good -- has been more rote by comparison.

So, I'd agree that the JMI solo was symbolic of where he was at the time. His best? Eh.

This is an excellent point (I still say the PR-SOTT period featured his most dazzling guitar work. His tone was distinctive, pretty and warm.) that period of guitar playing can rank with any ones anywhere anytime if we are talkin best guitar playing with Prince we are talking 1984-88

Something's wrong with your ears. Or you just don't get it.

Either way, it's a damn shame.

I wouldn't say JMI is Prince's career highpoint, but its probably his most emotional guitar playing ever, not to mention a simply stellar composition.

Lead guitar maybe. I think he really went one step further with the 93-95 NPG as far as those fantastic rhythm guitar breaks are concerned.

And just listen to the speeded-up performance of Pass the Peas from Fillmore 2004.
