Why Prince doesn't need a hit song...

Black Sweat is not going to be a big "hit". Oh well, who cares?

Think back to some of your favorite Prince songs. They are good songs, but some of the "classics" were not successful on the charts.Songs like DMSR, If I was your Girlfriend, Head, Uptown, Controversy, Hot thing, and America were not considered "hits". Who cares? They, like Black Sweat, are good songs that fans love.

i think prince's days as a successful singles artist are done. he's more of an album/concert draw anymore. but if you look at the state of the singles charts anymore, that's probably for the best.

Without a doubt I agree. My question is: Was it ever that important anyway. I mean "DMSR" turns it out, regardless of airplay and charts....anyway.

i think it was important in the '80s, because he was establishing himself as a pop icon and at the time, singles (as a product) were a much bigger deal than they are now. i think now, based on where he is with his career and where the industry is in general, the answer is no. it doesn't matter much at all.

I think it's fitting for genius to be celebrated.

I don't care if Bs wasn't a hit. It has its flaws including the need to racially identify sweat and screaming.

But either fury, love,3121 the song or the album should go down in history as a hit.

There is nothing I hate more than the public sleeping on genius.

Public favor doesn't make the song greater or worse. But it's about justice, you know.

His days of a singles artist doesn't HAVE to be done. For some reason he has lost his knack for putting out something people are gonna want. I don't think that his singles will do well playwise, but they would certainly sell if he would put something out besides a one track single. All he'd have to do is put a b-side on a single that's not available anywhere else (including the website) and folks would buy it. Of course that not really doing it proper, but it's better than what he's doing. The only thing so far off the album that is worth having is the picture disk of Black Sweat...because it's special.

I mean if he REALLY wanted things to do well he do it like this...(and please don't consider this to be a fammy wish list, cause I could care less).

Release the single song to all of the places you would want to hear it...radio, iTunes, and his site (though that is not really necessary).

Do a video and release that.

Do a CD single with a b-side and video

Do a virtual B-Side

Do a proper 12". CD - With the song, 2 remixes (at least), a b-side that isnt on the other and the video. Anything else like the other B-sides or a special remix of another song is a bonus.

This is pretty much what other artists do. Basically give your audience a REASON to buy your stuff (Take a tip from Bjork). He has PLENTY...PLENTY of things he could put on the single, but just doesn't.
