"The Truth" pretty much blows! I know I'll take some heat for this, but listen up. I love Prince as much as the rest of you. And when I heard he was about to releaase an all-accoustic album I was excited. Then I heard the album--"The Truth", and aside from "Welcome to the Dawn", the album is half-baked and so underwhelming and less than I expected from him as a master songwriter. I just had some beers and it was about time I let that sheet out!

Welcome 2 The Dawn is the worst track on there...P at his corniest, so if you're not feeling the rest of the album...

This is almost the exact same thread I started when I joined the Org years ago. I have learned to have more respect for the art now though. I really do not like The Truth and I never, ever listen to it.

There's 4 fantastic songs on there.
The Truth , Dont Play Me , Come back and Welcome to the Dawn. The rest are ruined by his sound effects.

Yeah, but isn't that true with everything since 1999 anyway? The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

The Truth , Dont Play Me , Come back and Welcome to the Dawn. The rest are ruined by his sound effects. The sound effects do hinder an otherwise pretty good project. I envy Prince for creating a full record of new songs, but parts of me longer for an Eric Clapton type Unplugged project. If he could have gone into his back catalog and created full new acoustic arrangements to COMPLETE songs, he could have sold a bundle and made new fans. I am thinking an expanded Little Red Corvette could have been georgeous, and like Layla, a hit all over again. Look how good Corvette was on Sign O the times. That being said I enjoy the laid back piano record a bit more than the Truth. One Night Alone is bliss. merf

Switters...I, too, LOVE "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates" so I give you MAD props for your Org.name, but you're HIGH!!!! "The Truth" is really something special. "Don't Play Me" is a great big middle finger to coprorate radio that no long has room for creative music like Prince, "One of Your Tears" is a FANTASTIC vocal performance...And don't even get me started about the SICK musicianship on "3rd eye" and "Fascination". I had a boot of this LOOOOONG before the "Crystal Ball" set was released, and I've always found it a VERY inspired set. Occupy Alphabet Street!

me too. it is, in fact, among my top 10 prince albums ever, possibly even top 5. i find very little to object to in this project. love all of the songs and still play it regularly, either seperate songs or the entire album as a whole. it's special and unique in his catalogue. i never understood why people hate on it as much as they do. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

3121! Rainbow Children. Love THAT. I agree. I listened to it again and it's rubbish. "Comeback" is deluded. "Don't Play Me" is bitter. There's more heartache in "One of Your Tears" than in "Comeback," which is all sorts of wrong. There's more truth in "Lolita" than in this entire disc.

Yup... Not into it either. Weak song writing, poor effects and strange noises for no apparent reason, some songs sound half finished or boredom set in before the end.

You're the first person to acknowledge my username! One of my favorite books! The album is lackluster. Period. I don't mean to be a hater. But some of you HAVE turned me around by reminding me of certain good songs like "Dionne" and "Fascination".

i respect the art, but this one was not for me either. And its cool that i don't have to like everything the man farts. Just glad he is not a human jukebox that spits out tunes just for the dj's to fill space on the air, or create pop music. Take what you like, leave the rest ---------------------------------

there are great songs on the disc: third eye is probably prince's best song in the past 15 years. other winners: the truth don't play me circle of amore man in a uniform animal kingdom fascination great fucking album. acoustic with sound effects, i really dig it. how some people can call one of prince's albums "rubbish" i have no idea. Other side of the pillow is good tho' I keep hearing people say "weak song writing" in response to so many of Prince's albums. Tell me why, that the truth features "weak song writing." Third Eye, Circle of Amore, and Man in a Uniform features some of Prince's BEST EVER song writing. People bash Prince for conventional music and then bash him for something different. You really paint him into a corner. "You don't exist again. It's all taken away from you.
