Nothing is wrong with Prince's Rapping!

Really it's just fine. The rap in Incense and Candles is very cool. I like how it segues into it actually. Gives the song a little edge and oomph!

Even in other songs, he's not bad...not nearly as bad as folks make it out to be. It's just his own style. ANd he's on key. So what's the beef?

I should point ouit I am not that big into rap (I like some...the good stuff) and personally, stuff like Eminem and all that is way too angry and bravado. But when Princy does it, I'm cool with it. I don't even think of it as rap, though it's in that style of singing.

This may be apples to Oranges but No one disses Blondie and Rapture. and though the lyrics to the song are cool...her rapping SUCKS and is so flat.

I know this is a hot topic...so BRING IT! biggrin

I thought the rapping in "Incense and Candles" was cool too.
He's rapping is ok I guess.

eh--it's ok. It can be good or really bad. Isn't there a song on Emancipation that mentions douching? I can't remember if that's Prince or someone else, but it's just awful.

The phrase "comparing apples to oranges" should have it's own thread by now. This is the third or fourth time I've seen it in the last few days. biggrin

"Prince Rapping" isn't Rapping, it's singing in a less vocal tone way.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

OK. I get you on that. But why do people diss it so much and not really recognize it for what it is?

I don't think anything is wrong with it. It's not his first time rapping anyway.

I think because it's her and at the time...there was really nothing to compare it to...and the fact that it's considered one of the first, it becomes enjoyable.

I was just commenting on the dead pan delivery (which I like). ANd it makes me wonder why folks hate it when P adds rap to his music.

i like when prince raps - he has a sense of rhythm and pitch, so it always sounds good. of course, i don't think sounding on the beat or on key is considered cool in rap these days, so maybe he sounds like a quaint curiousity from the past, i dunno...

Well he has said that rappers are tone deaf, which gives me reason to think HE doesn't care for the genre at all. And thus raps how he thinks it should be.

yeah, but i think what's interesting is, around the time he said that, most popular rappers were still fairly good. certainly a lot better than some of the fools he put on "emancipation" and "chaos & disorder".

Yep, his rapping is certainly an acquired taste...
But nothing could be quite as bad as this:

I'm drinkin' a soy latte
I get a double shoté
It goes right through my body
And you know I'm satisfied
I drive my Mini Cooper
And I'm feeling super-duper
Yo they tell me I'm a trooper
And you know I'm satisfied
I do yoga and pilates
And the room is full of hotties
So I'm checking out their bodies
And you know I'm satisfied
I'm diggin' on the isotope
This metaphysics shit is dope
And if all this can give me hope
You know I'm satisfied
I got a lawyer and a manager
An agent and a chef
Three nannies, an assistant
And a driver and a jet
A trainer and a butler
And a bodyguard or five
A gardener and a stylist
Do you think I'm satisfied?

That's the shit, right there.
lol

I can see his point: it's so bad it actually becomes good.

Prince's style of rapping fits his music well. But his all rap song singing days should've ended with "My Name Is Prince".
