They won't play new stuff. Clear Channel owns most of the stations and when they refuse to play an artist, it goes for all of their stations. Prince has said many bad things about Clear Channel therefore don't expect any new Prince music to ever be played. It's funny though how someone can have a #1 album and still get no play.

You guys are just plain cracking me up. I have said this a thousand times so I'll say it AGAIN. Radio will NOT play anyone who is not PAYING them $$ to play. Dig?

I have not listened to the radio since the WBMX days in Chicago back in 1982. I don't know why anyone would listen to the drivel anyway. I'd bet that the average hour on radio is 30 minutes or more of talk and commercials.

what do you care if it is played on the radio or not? as a P fan, I am assuming you have the cd, so if there is a song that you want to hear put the cd in an listen. why does it need to be on the radio if you already have the cd?

do you get some sort of satisfaction knowing other people are also listening to Prince and maybe enjoying the song? if so, why? does it make you feel validated as a Prince fan that other people are listening? if so, why do you need that validation. you should simply enjoy Prince regardless of whether other people like him or are exposed to him. your enjoyment and interest in Prince should be based solely on how much you enjoy the music, not whether anyone else does or is exposed to it. why would someone else listening to Prince make you happy, you get nothing from their enjoyment.
this message brought to you by logic.

Yes, I have the CD. When I want to listen to a particular Prince song...I DO put the CD in and listen.
Yes, I get some kind of satisfaction knowing other people are also listening to Prince. Why? Validation? no...I don't need any of that. Quite the contrary actually. I'm confident in my feelings about Prince's music, so when I think of other people hearing Prince's music I'm hoping someone may find it as fullfilling as I do.
I do simply enjoy Prince regardless of whether other people like him or are exposed to him.
I disagree that my enjoyment and interest in Prince should be based solely on any one thing...but there's no doubt that my enjoyment and interest in Prince is certainly NOT based anyone else's feelings....that's for sure.
Hearing Prince on the radio makes me happy in a fun kind of way, it's not like I need it to make me happy in life or anything...but to say you get nothing out of other people's enjoyment of something you hold so dear..is a very cold statement to me...I don't think there's many things that provide as much happiness as there is in watching someone else's enjoyment of something.
anyway...just my thoughts.

anyway...just my thoughts.

but there is a difference between enjoying hearing a Prince song on the radio and getting angry to the point that you start a thread cursing about it in the title because it isn't being played. those are two different reactions brought about by two diffferent motivations. you have only examined one, the happiness.

so why does it make you angry NOT to hear Prince on the radio. by not hearing Prince on the radio you aren't losing or missing anything, so why does the absence of missing something make you angry? not hearing Prince should bring no emotional reaction even if hearing Prince brings about joy, unless not hearing Prince on the radio, meaning nobody else wants to listen to his music, somehow makes you feel insecure about being a Prince fan, thus hearing him on the radio makes you feel you aren't alone in enjoying his music, at least outside of the direct fandom, which in turn validates you as a Prince fan.

why does it make you angry?

also there is a difference between watching someone enjoy something and wanting or needing someone to be exposed to something specific that you like, i.e. Prince. the latter is about you, not them, and how it makes you feel good to know that someone likes what you like, which is simply a form of validation.

if I don't like ice cream I can still receive joy from watching my children enjoy a double scoop, but this is different from wanting to see my children, or anyone else for that matter, enjoy something specific that I like because it makes ME feel good to know I am not alone in enjoying it, thus validating my tastes.

true...
but I was responding to your previous comment...which was asking about why this and or that makes you happy. You hadn't really asked the angry question till now. smile

It doesn't make me angry. Perhaps tripp can answer that.
I will admit it aggrivates me to a point...because I feel Prince deserves his new music played as much as anything else does I guess. I feel he's disrespected in that regard.

well...I guess it's all in how you look at it. So..if you DO like Ice Cream and you do receive joy from watching your kids enjoy ice cream...does that mean you seeking validation for liking ice cream? I mean..this whole validation arguement could be stretched to why we come here...call it validation if you want..even if it is...why are you so bothered by it?

my whole point to this was,
#1 prince - still around making great music
#2 other artist from his time (that actually still make music) have new songs played on the radio.
#3 this album is so good (the best in at least a decade) deserves to be heard by the masses.
#4 there maybe some people that like his music and don't know there is a new album out there.and some that haven't heard of prince, that could become prince fans if they heard the stuff on the radio.

Prince isn't alone in being an old school artist that is not getting his new songs played on the radio. The Barkays and Cameo both had a decent, halfway funky album in the 1990s and received absolutely no airplay.

The only older artists that get airplay are the ones making albums of nothing but slow songs or the ones that sell out with a shit hop sound.

#4 there maybe some people that like his music and don't know there is a new album out there.

If they are still into Prince, more than likely they definately know about the album. I've only had the internet for about two years but before that I knew of new Prince albums from word of mouth and checking the Prince section in the record stores all the time. Usually every Prince album has been mentioned at some time or other on the TV. I knew about all the Prince albums in the 1990s and very few of them got radio airplay in my area.

and some that haven't heard of prince, that could become prince fans if they heard the stuff on the radio.

Most of the ones that listen to current radio will probably not like his music anyway. They might possibly like "Incense and Candles" if he releases it as the next single but, to tell you the truth, I really hope the song doesn't get airplay so maybe he won't make songs like that one anymore.

...and to top it all off, they're playing Tamar's BL&B in heavy rotation as well. H&S is what an Adult R&B station should be. They not only play back-in-the-day stuff (funk included, not just ballads), but new songs by veteran artists, even uptempo new stuff like tracks off of George Clinton's new disc. In addition they play some of the new soul artists like Van Hunt and Goapele that Urban AC audiences might like if they were given the chance by terrestrial radio.

I don't know about XM, but Sirius has been very good to Prince. They were one of the few outlets to put Te Amo in heavy rotation and did the same for Black Sweat. They've even put the Tamar song (BL&B) in heavy rotation as well. Sirius also has given regular play to non-single tracks like Lolita, Satisfied and Dear Mr. Man from the last album. This is about as close as it gets to the old days when a radio station would play several cuts from a new Prince album upon it's release. Whatever blacklist Prince is on with terrestrial radio PDs doesn't seem to apply with Sirius.

Heck, if you go to the homepage of Ch. 51 "Heart & Soul" at the Sirius website, they even have a pic of Prince featured on the flash banner at the top of the page!

You never know what you'll hear on XM's soul stations. I've heard "Hot Thang", "1+1+1 is 3", and I almost drove off the road when I heard "We Do This".
