GLITTER Vs Purple Rain, pt 2 Well, anyway you slice and dice it, Glitter is really more-or-less an updated Purple Rain. Possibly not as close as 8-mile, but it's all too obvious that the two movies have simularities.

Mariah is a HUGE Prince fan and I always thought that was what she was going for with Glitter... only it kinda didn't work out how she wanted... she always says that she wanted the film to be much grittier, infact she even recorded some much grittier scenes, which got cut in editing... it's a shame cos the actual vibe of the movie is cool and the storyline is quite coarse, just a shame it turned into more of a teen flick than a cult classic like Purple Rain...

I love Glitter. I don't get why poeple hate it so much. The writing wasn't great but mariah's acting is pretty good.
On the commentary DVD the director says the picked Padma (who now married Salman Rushdie!) because she had a Vanity-esque vibe.  |
