Prince and swearing

I've been thinking about this and would like some input from others.
Prince has decided not to use so called "4 letter words" any more. Is this a descision based on his religious beliefs? If so, I can see not taking the Lord's name in vain, but most of the 4 letter words don't have anything to do with that. Isn't he CONforming to someone else's thought of what is a 'bad word"?
Also, is the word only bad if it is spoken? He definately still inplies the words in his songs, he just doesn't SPEAK them. For example, in MUSE 2 THE PHAROH, when he says " what the ...? leaving a blank space for a word that rhymes with luck, the thought is still there isn't it?
I just thought I'd throw this out for discussion.

Don't worry. I got no beef with ya, maaan.confused I just think way too much is being made of this. The guy is almost in his mid 40s, he's not going to do every single thing he used to do as a young buck forever. He's older now, and if we live long enough we'll get older and change in some ways too...

Ya see.

Good observation.
If Prince continues in the present direction, one can
expect to see less and less of the "implied words" that
you mentioned.
When one embarks on this particular journey, he does not
change overnight. Fine tuning of one's understanding,
and applications of such understanding, comes with the
passage of time.
I think we all know profanity when we hear it, though
we are not all offended by the same collection of terms.
TRC is definitely an example of a person being very
zealous in sharing what he is learning...and none of
us know it all. I know that I don't, and I've been on
the journey for years.

Peace

I think it is great he no longer uses those words nor that using those words makes him feel they are what makes his music worth more than it really is, that of a "nasty song but instead true genuine music. The man has grown up,"when I was a child I did childish things, I thought like a child, I spoke like a child, but when I became an adult I put away childish things". He simply grew up and I dont think it has nothing to to with religion.

I think it's fine that his new music does not have swearing or explicit sexuality. I think the problem comes in when he goes back into his previous releases and tries to clean them up.

The self censorship of his past is annoying. It's like he's ashamed of who he once was. It's like he's ashamed of his art and now wants to go back with an air brush and tidy things up.

It's disappointing to know that songs you may have really liked have been banished. I was at a Hit 'n Run show a while back and there were screams of excitement and recogniton from the audience when he teased by having the intro to Darling Nikki start and Geneva came out in her school girl outfit. Then he just cut off the song and ended it at the intro. You could hear the audible groans from the audience.

I've been saying for some time that to play the old songs without swearing sounds Stupid and Artificial, cause no one really talks like that. It's CONTROLLED. He is Controlling himself. But who are We to say what he does He is the Artist and it is His music and if He doesn't want to curse then why should HE? He doesn't have to. His music is still gonna sell and his Die -Hard Fans are still gonna be there for him, buying his albums. Let him Do His Music , His Way.! I'm Keeping my mouth shut about this, cause it's his place . I personally really Dig the Rainbow Children and the new pieces. He never ceases to amaze me and I'm always gonna be a Fan. I say Prince be Happy Do It Your Way! Fans remember there is only 1 Prince you always liked his qwirkiness, that he was different , his style . So what's Changed? Absolutely Nothing! This is what he FEELS now. It may not be next month,or next year. This is what it's about now. Accept It! Embrace it. Love It. It's what he's given to US! Be Thankful! His music is Wonderful! .

I AGREE... You can't change history & I hate to see him spend energy trying. We'll ALWAYS remember the songs in their original form & that's the way we wanna hear them. It depends on the song but changing the words can mean changing the intent & that ain't cool.

I don't mind him choosing not to perform certain songs - I prefer omission to bleeps, silent spaces, words played backwards, etc.

Do your thing, P - change is good but don't fuck w/ my memories, please!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I concur with your sentiments. He can do or not do what he wants, but he shouldn't edit the old stuff. This [i]is[/u] a dicussion that has already happened so I'm going to leave it at that.

He's implying something, but that something is actually "fire truck". It's slang from the 40's that no one uses like "galvonize" or "ah hoy hoy". You can try ask your grandparents about it. He isn't implying the dirty swearing word that you thought he was.

As soon as LG is out of the picture for a while (like all past relationships with side men, they eventually go bye-bye) we will start to hear him sing and talk like he grew up in Minneapolis once again.

There are too many words that rhyme with shit, dick, fuck, pussy, tits and ass. Not too many words rhyme with gosh-darn.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

So how old is LG? How long do you think we've got to wait?
I hope Prince wakes up soon.

LG is as old as the hills. But the man is in pretty good shape and is unlikely to die from lung cancer or a drugs overdose, as he does not conform to the rock n' roll lifestyle.

So, yes, we may have to wait "a mighty long time" before LG is out of the picture permanently. Unless, of course, it's all MADE TO LOOK LIKE AN ACCIDENT, he, he, he...
