Dinner with Delores

Dinner with Delores
Must be some kind of sin
Like a Brontosaurus
She was packin' it in
The first night we dined
And by the next time
This girl was eatin' all but the tip

And by the stroke of midnight
She wanted some more (more)
Showin' dirty movies
Like some kind of whore
But she was wastin' her time
'Cause there wasn't a line
That would make me come 'round her door

Dinner with Delores
Must be some kind of sin
Her bell's just a-broken (bell's just broken)
Since 1984
(Dancin') Dancin' like a white girl (white girl)
On disco dirty floors
Damn, Delores, pick another subject please
Introduce the carpet 2 something other than your knees

Like a real confession
No one could be more made up than u
Nothin's left 4 guessin'
What a shame
(Boo hoo) Boo hoo

(Delores)
(Delores)

I'd call u a friend
But it must be a sin
And I've run out of cheeks 2 turn

Dinner with Delores
No more

thumbs up!

I love this song...the lyrics are pure genius also.
Shows he has a great sense of humour.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I remember reading on another thread on here ages ago that the song was somehow a metaphorical swipe at WB. In fact, I believe the whole album was.

Seems more than possible to me.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

From the lyrics that seems far more likely.

Sounds to me like Dolores is either WB or his so called "fans" and their relationship with him. Someone analyze this shit. I'm not an English major.

I reckon:

"The Artist Formerly Known As Prince has published an open letter to Madonna on his official "Love 4 One Another" website that details a dream The Artist says he had about following the Material Girl up to the podium at the Grammy awards. In the dream, the ex-Prince asks Madonna to help him gain control of his old master recordings, which are owned by Warner Bros., the company for which Madonna records. In his dream, she says, "If it was my company, u could have them," to which The Artist replied, "it IS ur company as long as u remain in their graces ... Madonna, make a stand 4 what is RIGHT." A spokeswoman for Madonna was unavailable for comment."

Prince has never taken swipes at esteemed civil rights leaders. Besides, Tucker's general beef against rappers is one that P has echoed himself.

C. DeLores Tucker (google it)
One of this century’s most renowned visionaries and civil rights activists, Dr. C. DeLores Tucker, former Secretary of State, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1971-1977), is the convening founder and national chair of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (NCBW), having succeeded the Hon. Shirley Chisholm in 1992. She is the first African American woman in the nation to serve as Secretary of State, during which time she instituted the first Commission on the Status of Women in Pennsylvania.

Since Chaos and Disorder followed Madonna's Erotica (and her sex book) where she does it all (incidently making her best album), it's probably about her. There are no biographical refernces that identify CDT. Like A Prayer (see ref.) is the album that Prince did the duet with Madge which was (not a) "Love Song".

"Damn, Delores, pick another subject please (other than sex / shock)
Introduce the carpet 2 something other than your knees
Like a real confession (Like a A Prayer reference)
No one could be more made up than u
Nothin's left 4 guessin' " (after Erotica/sex book)

GangstaFam

It almost seems like it should've been an alternative rock hit. Very quirky and different song for Prince.

One of my favorite Prince songs from the '90s... Love it. It's so different from everything else on C&D, but I love the fact that it's on there.
